Acting University Lecturer in North Sami

The Department of Language Studies at Umeå universitet's Faculty of Humanities conducts education and research in languages, literature, and language didactics within Swedish, English, Finnish, French, Italian, linguistics, meänkieli, Russian, Sami, Spanish, and German.

We are now seeking an acting University Lecturer in North Sami at 50% with commencement on January 1, 2027. The employment is time-limited until December 30, 2028.

Description of duties

The employment includes teaching at the preparatory level in North Sami and pedagogical development work. In addition to teaching, teaching-related administration as well as staff, subject, and planning meetings are included. The teaching is web-based.

The employee is expected to be able to teach in North Sami, Swedish or another Scandinavian language, and English.

Personal professional development is included, corresponding to 10% of the employment.

Eligibility

Those who have a degree at least at the Master's level in a subject area relevant to the employment, or who have some other professional skill that is significant with regard to the subject matter of the employment and the duties to be included in the employment, are eligible to be employed as a University Lecturer in North Sami.

A degree of at least Bachelor's level in North Sami is a requirement for the employment.

Very good language skills in North Sami, good knowledge of Swedish or another Scandinavian language, and good knowledge of English are requirements for the employment.

Assessment criteria

The assessment criteria for selection are: experience of teaching North Sami at the university level or within compulsory school, experience of web-based teaching, experience in development work, particularly in creating and developing interactive resources, as well as administrative skill. Also included in the assessment criteria are good collaborative abilities as well as the competence and other suitability needed to perform the duties well.

Balancing assessment criteria

Special weight shall be given to experience of teaching North Sami at the university level or within compulsory school and experience of web-based teaching.

Great weight shall be given to experience in development work, particularly documented ability to develop, create, and maintain interactive resources.

Administrative skill and good collaborative abilities, as well as the competence and other suitability needed to perform the duties well, shall be weighted in the assessment.
