Description
The Department of Political Science is looking for a student who wants to work as a teaching assistant (amanuens) in political science.
The employment concerns 20% of a full-time position starting from 2026-10-01 or by agreement and is time-limited until 2027-01-17.
Tasks
The work will be carried out within the infrastructure project Representative Democracy Data Archive (repdem.org). In the research project, political parties and governments in parliamentary systems are studied. The work includes assisting researchers within the research project with various tasks, primarily through collecting, processing, and documenting data, as well as general assistant work.
The content and conditions of the tasks may change over time. The work is performed at the Department of Political Science.
Eligibility
Employment as a teaching assistant is regulated in Chapter 5 of the Higher Education Ordinance (HF). Only those admitted to undergraduate or graduate level education may be employed as a teaching assistant (Chapter 5, Section 10 HF).
Requirements
As an applicant, you must be a student at Umeå universitet, preferably at the Department of Political Science or within other related subjects.
Good knowledge of Excel or other spreadsheet programs, information retrieval, and report writing. Good knowledge of English is also a requirement.
Other qualifications
We are looking for someone who has a structured way of working, is meticulous in your execution, has good collaborative skills, and the ability to adapt to changing conditions.
Experience working with assistant tasks in research projects is particularly meritorious. Knowledge of programming and quantitative analyses is also meritorious.
Terms
Commencement 2026-10-01 or by agreement. The position concerns 20% of a full-time position during the period 2026-10-01 to 2026-01-17.
For teaching assistant positions, employment can be for a maximum of one year at a time, however, a total of at most three years. The employment must be completed in parallel with studies.
Umeå universitet applies salary setting according to the agreed salary scale for teaching assistants.
