About the position At the Department of Language and Culture, there is a vacant position as a University Lecturer in Norwegian as a second language. The place of work is UiT in Tromsø. Desired start date for the position is January 1, 2027, or by agreement. About the Department of Language and Culture The Department of Language and Culture (ISK) is a department with great thematic breadth and a very active research environment. There are approximately 160 employees in total, primarily at the Tromsø campus, but also at the Alta campus. The department has approximately 500 students. The department hosts some of the leading linguistic research environments in the world, among others represented by the Center for Language, Brain and Learning (C-LaBL). In addition, there are research groups within language acquisition (AcqVA-Nor), cognitive linguistics (CLEAR), Sami language technology (Giellatekno and Divvun), as well as sociolinguistics, multilingualism and revitalization (MultiNor). The department's research environments within literary studies, art history, and media and documentation studies are, among others, organized in the research groups Arctic Voices, Engaging Conflicts in a Digital Era (ENCODE), Health, Art and Society (HAS), Interdisciplinary Phenomenology (IP), Pax Slavia in FLux: European Contexts (PSIF) and Worlding Northern Art (WONA). ISK offers teaching in linguistics, literary studies, art history, media and documentation studies, English, Kven, Finnish, Nordic, Russian, Sami, Spanish and German, as one-year studies, bachelor's or master's degree programs, as well as three international master's programs. The department has study tracks in North Sami, Spanish, English, Nordic and Russian (subject 1 and subject 2), and German as subject 2 in the teacher education 8-13. In addition, the department is responsible for Sami as a subject in the primary and lower secondary teacher education (at mother tongue level and as a second language). The department also offers doctoral education in culture/literary studies, art history, media and documentation studies, and linguistics. The position's area of work We are seeking an engaged colleague for our subject group in Norwegian as a second language. The person appointed will have the main task of teaching Norwegian to employees and international students, as well as contributing to the further development of flexible Norwegian training for employees. UiT offers Norwegian as a second language at all levels, A1-C1 (from beginner to advanced language level). The student group is from all over the world; they are motivated and highly educated. The person appointed will be part of a subject group consisting of six permanent positions that collaborate well with Nordic linguistics and the research group Acquisition, Variation and Attrition (AcqVA). Focus areas for the work in AcqVA include, among others, how multilinguals learn languages and how to design good teaching arrangements for Norwegian second language training. It is expected that the person appointed participates in research group collaboration and professional networks nationally and internationally, as well as in the dissemination of research to a broader public. Working and salary conditions You must be willing to engage in development work within your own subject and for the university as a whole. At UiT, the distribution of working time is flexible and assigned on an individual basis. As a norm, University Lecturers use up to 20% of their time for R&D work and 80% for teaching, after time for other tasks has been deducted. As a norm, 5% is allocated to administrative tasks. University Lecturer is paid according to the state regulations code 1009 with a gross annual salary in a 100% position between NOK 566,000 - 720,000. In special cases, higher salary may be considered. From the gross salary, a 2% mandatory contribution to Statens pensjonskasse is deducted.
