About the position

Polhavet 2050/Arctic Ocean 2050 is Norway's largest research program ever, and is intended to provide the knowledge needed when the Arctic Polhavet becomes ice-free within a few years.

Do you want to lead and coordinate communication and ensure that the knowledge is understood and used? You will formally be employed at UiT Norges arktiske universitet, where you will collaborate closely with the program management in Polhavet 2050 at Fakultet for biovitenskap, fiskeri og økonomi (BFE). Here you will become part of a strong, interdisciplinary working environment with national and international partners – working to coordinate research and dissemination activities among the 18 participating institutions and our foreign partners. You will also work closely with researchers, program management, and communication environments throughout the consortium.

The place of work is UiT in Tromsø.

Tasks

The program brings together 18 institutions and over 300 researchers within natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, and spans ten years. We are seeking a senior communications advisor who will make the research understandable, relevant, and visible – to decision-makers, professional environments, and society.

We are looking for someone who can coordinate communication work across institutions and professional environments and act as a strategic advisor to the program management on communication and dissemination issues.

You will work together with the communication environments in all 18 institutions and lead and coordinate the collective effort. We are looking for someone who can take initiative, who sees opportunities, and who makes others good. You must also be able to communicate in a way that engages a wide audience.

In Polhavet 2050, you will have a rare opportunity to work with research of great societal importance, which will form the basis for the management of the Arctic for a long time. We can offer a key role in one of Norway's most important national programs, with a broad professional scope and international ripple effects.

Main tasks:

  • Coordination of dissemination work from Polhavet 2050's activities, research, and research results
  • Media contact
  • Content production of text, images, and video for various channels
  • Contributing to periodic reporting, such as scientific reporting to Forskningsrådet and the production of annual reports
  • Assistance with internal communication, e.g., the program's newsletter
  • Operation of website and social media channels
  • Event support and promotion
  • Communication-professional leadership support
  • Develop and follow up communication strategy, goals, and plans

Qualifications

You must have:

  • Relevant education in communication, journalism, or similar at the master's degree level (extensive and relevant experience can compensate for lack of education)
  • Minimum five years of experience with communications advising and targeted communication work and/or relevant experience from journalism
  • Experience with content production and distribution to various channels including social media, to various target groups including media, industry, and authorities
  • Very good oral and written presentation skills in both Norwegian and English

It will be an advantage if you also have:

  • Experience with communication work or journalism in the research or knowledge field
  • Experience with project management and/or coordination of project groups with many participants
  • Insight into Norwegian social life and debate
  • Knowledge of international research work, organization, and journalism
  • Interest in the Arctic and what the area means for the rest of the world

You should expect a fair amount of travel and participation in events.

In the assessment of applicants, we will emphasize the applicant's motivation and personal suitability for the position. We want you to:

  • Be self-driven and structured
  • Have good collaboration and team-building skills
  • Be confident in your own abilities and the advisory role
  • Be proactive, creative, and solution-oriented

We offer

  • A good working environment with dedicated colleagues
  • Good welfare schemes
  • Good pension, insurance, and loan schemes in Statens pensjonskasse

The position is remunerated according to the state's regulation code 1364, with a gross annual salary in a 100% position between NOK 720,000 - 850,000. In special cases, higher salary may be considered. From the gross salary, a mandatory 2% contribution is deducted to Statens pensjonskasse.
