About the position At the Department of Building, Energy and Material Technology (IBEM) in Narvik, a permanent position is available as either Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, or University Lecturer within structural engineering related to building and civil engineering. The position is affiliated with the research group BEaM (Building, Energy and Material Technology) or DeTeA (Design, Testing and Use of Building Materials). The core activity of the department is education, research, and dissemination within building-related engineering disciplines. The department's overall objective is to contribute to the sustainable development of the region and the northern areas. The department provides engineering expertise to the building and construction industry at national and international levels, with a strong connection to the industry in the region. The department is located in Narvik, but currently offers decentralized engineering education in both Alta and Tromsø, as well as online education. The department has approximately 400 students distributed across bachelor's and master's levels.
The department offers, among other things:
- professional education at master's and bachelor's levels
- flexible qualification schemes for admission to engineering education
- ph.d. education within building, material technology, and construction-related subjects including energy use and VA
- research projects within building and construction-related subject areas
- commercial laboratory services and contract research for the industry. Some examples of this are material testing and classification, thermography and airtightness testing of buildings, acoustic measurements, indoor climate investigations, and VA
- continuing education courses
- facilitation and arrangement of professional courses, seminars, and conferences
The department has two research groups relevant to the position: DeTeA (Design, Testing and Use of Building Materials), which focuses on the development and testing of innovative building materials, and BEaM (Building, Energy and Material Technology), which works with sustainable solutions within building and energy technology. Both research groups have a significant portfolio of ongoing research projects together with national and international partners. In addition, the department has research groups within hydrogen and energy and heat transport in buildings. The workplace is UiT in Narvik. You must be able to start in the position within a reasonable time after receiving an offer.
Tasks The position will primarily contribute to covering teaching and supervision, as well as participation in R&D activities, primarily within the field of structural engineering related to building and civil engineering. Other subject areas related to the department's current education and project portfolio may be expected. Both classroom and online teaching are assigned to the position. The department has close professional cooperation with industry and the public sector. It is expected that the person appointed will contribute to further strengthening this cooperation. It is expected that the person appointed participates in research group cooperation and professional networks nationally and internationally, as well as in the dissemination of research to a broader public. Application writing (NFR/EU) is expected from the position holder. If a professor is appointed, they may be given responsibility for establishing their own research group.
Qualifications Qualification requirements: A position as Professor requires a doctorate within the field of technology, building, and environment, or competence at a corresponding level documented by scientific work of the same scope and quality. significant contributions to research at the highest level, in accordance with international or national standards within the field. To be awarded professorial competence, you must be able to document significantly more extensive high-quality research than what is required for a doctorate. Emphasis will be placed on whether the applicant can document high-level professional activity over the last six years, and that this points forward toward continued activity at the professor level. A position as Associate Professor requires a doctorate within the field of technology, building, and environment, or a related field, or competence at a corresponding level documented by scientific work of the same scope and quality within the same field. A position as Senior Lecturer requires a master's degree or equivalent within the same field mentioned above, and relevant professional or teaching experience, as well as contributions to professional development work at a high level, in accordance with international or national standards within the field/profession. A position as University Lecturer requires a master's degree or equivalent within the same field mentioned above, or a related field, and relevant professional or teaching experience. For all job titles, the following is also required: The person appointed must have competence and experience in one or more of the following areas: Construction Management. Building construction and material science. Structural engineering.
Relevant professional or teaching experience from a university/college. Documented educational competence (can be acquired - see section below). The language of instruction is Norwegian, and you must possess/have a proficiency level in Norwegian corresponding to a native speaker. You must document skills in Norwegian/Scandinavian language at a minimum level C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Good knowledge of English, both oral and written. A Professor is paid according to the state regulations code 1013 with a gross annual salary in a 100% position between NOK 885,000-1,100,000; an Associate Professor is paid according to the state regulations code 1011 between NOK 645,000 - 915,000; a Senior Lecturer is paid according to the state regulations code 1198 between NOK 645,000 - 915,000; and a University Lecturer is paid according to the state regulations code 1009 between NOK 560,000 - 890,000. In special cases, higher salary may be considered for all job titles. From the gross salary, a 2% mandatory contribution to Statens pensjonskasse is deducted. At UiT, the distribution of working time is flexible and assigned on an individual basis. As a norm, a Professor and Associate Professor will use equal parts of their time for R&D work and teaching, while Senior Lecturers use up to 30% of working time for R&D work and 70% for teaching, and University Lecturers up to 20% of the time for R&D work and 80% for teaching, after time for other tasks has been deducted. Normally, 5% is allocated to administrative tasks.
