Protective Medicine Specialist
Joining the Secret Service, Office of the Deputy Director, Operational Medicine Division offers the opportunity to contribute to the agency's emergency medical operations. In this role, you will develop and implement medical contingency plans, conduct site assessments, ensure preparedness for medical emergencies, and integrate emergency medical operations into mission-critical activities.
Major duties
The selectee will serve as a Protective Medicine Specialist (PMS) in the Operational Medicine Division (OMD) developing and managing tactical medical response programs in support of Secret Service protective and investigative missions. As a PMS you will deliver advanced emergency medical care and expertise to Secret Service protectees, including former presidents, presidential candidates, and other individuals designated by federal law or presidential authorization. The PMS also provides medical support during National Special Security Events (NSSE) and Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) events and may be embedded with tactical teams, protective details and other investigative units as operational needs require. Typical work assignments include: Conducting operational assessments of designated sites and facilities to ensure compliance with USSS operational, medical, and safety requirements; identifying vulnerabilities and recommending corrective actions to enhance mission readiness and support protective operations. Performing investigative and medical-focused site assessments to identify vulnerabilities, analyze protective environments, and integrate findings into actionable protective intelligence and operational guidance; ensures compliance with USSS standards and enhances mission safety. Supporting the planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation of medical protective operations by embedding medical considerations into mission design, developing contingency plans, ensuring resource readiness, and coordinating with protective personnel and partner agencies to optimize medical response during protective events, investigative missions, and special events. Qualifications

To qualify for the GS-13 Level (starting salary $125,158.00) you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent at the GS-12 level performing duties such as: Make field medical decisions and delivers medical care at the scene for injured or other affected individuals, consistent with paramedic scope of practice and agency medical protocols. Conduct comprehensive protective site inspections to identify operational, medical, environmental, or procedural deficiencies and ensures compliance with agency directives, protective policies, and national response standards. Develop, issue, and enforce operational medical policies, standards, and protocols to ensure that protective medical practices remain aligned with agency protective intelligence, investigative requirements, and law enforcement operations. Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following requirements to be considered qualified for the positions: Possess and maintain a National Registry Paramedic (NRP) Certification. The qualification requirements listed above must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Requirements
Conditions of Employment: US Citizenship is required. U.S. citizens are legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship and are entitled to all rights and protections under U.S. law. Possess a current valid driver's license. Must be REAL ID compliant. Obtain a Top-Secret Clearance and retain it during your career. Certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so, if you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959. Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position. Disclose any prior drug use, attempted use, and/or experimentation. Submit to a polygraph examination prior to your appointment. Complete pre-employment medical examinations. Must be at least 21 years old at the time of application. Applicants may be referred up to their 40th birthday. Referral is defined as the point at which minimum qualification determinations are completed. Exceptions may apply for those with current or prior service in federal law enforcement positions covered by special retirement provisions. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon, or your conviction was expunged or set aside. Must have uncorrected vision of at least 20/100, correctable to 20/20 in each eye. LASIK, ALK, RK, and PRK surgeries are acceptable if required post-surgery visual tests are passed: Lasik (3 months), PRK (6 months), ALK/RK (1 year) waiting periods apply. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25 decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500,1000 and 2000Hz ranges. Complete or secure an appropriate waiver for a 13-week Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) and a 10-week Mixed Basic Training Course (MBTC) at the Agency's James J.
