You will serve as a You will serve as a MACHINE TOOL OPERATOR in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, CODE 900, of PSNS and IMF.

Major duties

  • You will perform machining operations or equipment disassembly, repair, and assembly.
  • You will disassemble and examine by measurement and visual inspection components such as valves, pumps, forced draft blowers, laundry/galley equipment, air compressors, and other ships' machinery and make oral/written reports of conditions found.
  • You will repair, assemble, and test components in accordance with specifications.
  • You will perform common machine tool operations on conventional machine tools such as engine lathes, turret lathes, milling machines, drill presses and shapers, machining castings, forging, bar stock or fabrication of various metals or metal alloys.
  • You will perform common set-ups, select required tooling, and operate machines, establishing and controlling feeds and speeds and bring various tools to bear in successive operations.
  • You will use tools such as grinders, drills, reamers, taps, dies, wrenches, chisels, files, scrapers, punches, hammers and measuring instruments such as scales, micrometers, gauges, and calipers.
  • You will read and understand blueprints to the extent necessary to determine the dimensional and surface finish requirements of a finished work-piece, or to determine the sequence of operations in component disassembly and assembly.
  • You will maintain a clean and orderly worksite, following safety regulations and safe work practices.
  • You will ensure proper and safe operation of machine tools and equipment.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
