SQL SERVER DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR

Major duties
Acts as database administrator for a Marine Corps-wide data network supporting administrative, point-of-sale, and other core business applications utilizing Microsoft SQL and Microsoft Azure cloud database technologies. Duties include installing, configuring, maintaining, patching and upgrading SQL Server enterprise level environments and Azure SQL workloads; evaluating, recommending, planning and scheduling the upgrade/installation of new database technologies and architectures; and analyzing and planning for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements. Works with high availability and disaster recovery options such as SQL server clusters, database mirroring and log shipping, Azure Geo-Replication, Azure Failover Groups, and hybrid recovery models. Requires knowledge of backups, retention policies, database restoration, recovery models, integrity checks, DBCC commands, Azure automated backup, and advanced monitoring. Performs performance tuning and optimization (PTO), requiring knowledge of indexes and index management. Uses native monitoring and troubleshooting tools including SQL Profiler, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics and third-party tools such as Toad, and Spotlight. Troubleshoots and resolves database problems such issues related to integrity, performance, blocking and deadlocking, replication, log shipping, connectivity, and security issues, as well as CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention. Creates and uses scripts to meet operational requirements for both on-premises and Azure SQL environments. Develops and documents SQL systems administration procedures, Azure data platform operational standards, data policies, and cloud database governance practices. Works within established change control processes and coordinates, tracks, documents and resolves database related incidents, change requests and work orders. Implements SQL database and Azure database system security procedures and tools, applying information security/information assurance policies, principles and best practices as well as database security policy for PCI, PII DISA STIG, RMF and DoD cloud compliance requirements. Performs other related duties as assigned. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required.
Qualifications
Four (4) years of work experience in a Microsoft SQL DBA role. Applicable education may be substituted for years of experience. Certification in Microsoft SQL Server System/Database Administration (i.e., Microsoft Certified IT Professional: Database Administrator (MCITP) or similar per DoD 8570.01-M) is required within six months of employment. Experience with TOAD for SQL Server, windows Server 2019 or later certification considered a plus; Preferred qualifications include hands-on expertise with Windows Clusters, RAID, SAN configurations, security delegation, Service Principal Names (SPNs), storage components, and cloud database administration including Azure SQL platforms, Azure DevOps, and hybrid data integration Experience with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) creation, compliance, implementation, remediation, and documentation is highly desirable. Must possess excellent communication and documentation skills. As an authorized and privileged user of Department of Defense Information Systems must possess or receive Information Assurance awareness by completing the Security+ CE Certification as a condition of access within six months of employment and thereafter must complete annual Information Assurance awareness training and maintain the Security+ CE certification.

EVALUATIONS:
