This vacancy is for a WS - 5306-10,Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Supervisor located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, TRACEN BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN FACILITIES ENGINEERING DIVISION in BIRMINGHAM, Alabama.

Major duties

You will serve as a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Supervisor and be responsible for ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC), and related mechanical systems supporting TRACEN Birmingham facilities through directing the campus HVAC maintenance workforce and coordinating limited related facility-maintenance work necessary to sustain training, residential, administrative, athletic, and other installation-support facilities. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Sets daily priorities from work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, system condition, occupant impacts, and command direction; adjusts crews and resources as conditions change Directs diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and functional testing of air handlers, rooftop and split systems, heat pumps, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, hydronic and ventilation equipment, refrigeration, motors, and associated building automation and direct digital controls, as present on campus Oversees incidental facility maintenance associated with restoring or protecting building systems, including minor carpentry, plumbing, door and ceiling repairs, and similar work within the crew's qualifications Ensures HVAC system reliability through preventive maintenance, work-order management, equipment-condition assessments, and timely response to system failures while enforcing safety, environmental, occupational health, hazardous-energy-control, and refrigerant-handling requirements

Qualifications

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: Ability to Supervise the work of the position (SCREEN-OUT) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair (etc) Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Troubleshooting Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
