Powered Support Systems Mechanic

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a Military Technician position with the Army Reserve Aviation Command, Aviation Support Facility Carson West located at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Major duties

• Repairing electrical and transistorized systems in AC and DC applications
• Repairing and rebuilding hydraulic cylinders and systems and pneumatic systems
• Testing pressure safety devices
• Repairing a variety of power support systems
• Servicing and repairing of air conditioning in vehicles
• Repairing a variety of power support systems
• Servicing and repairing of air conditioning in vehicles

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Powered Support Systems Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Perform preventative maintenance Troubleshooting, repairing or replacing parts and components of various aviation ground support equipment and troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems and equipment and track equipment inspections and services. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts: Performs work, which involves frequent bending, reaching, crouching, standing, arm movement. Works in awkward positions or cramped areas. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts items weighing up to 75 pounds using jacks, hoists, or helpers. Subject to strain caused by vibrations of the crane, and from jerking and jolting motion while lifting and moving loads. Working Conditions: Most work is done inside where it is frequently noisy, drafty, and fumes from vehicles are usually present. Occasionally performs repairs outside, sometimes during bad weather. Dirt, dust, and grease are always present. Vehicle fluids such as battery acid and hydraulic fluid may cause skin irritation or burns. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of bruises, cuts, shocks, burns, and strains. Works in noise hazard areas, requiring an annual audiometric evaluation. Exposed to the possibility of injury caused by swinging loads or from the crane overturning. Requires annual physical to maintain current CDL and forklift certification.
