Inspector General

About the Position: Serves as a civilian Inspector General (IG) for the Medical Readiness Command, East (MRC-E), U.S Army Medical Command (MEDCOM), supporting various subordinate activities. Performs Assistance, Investigations, Inspections, and Teaching and Training functions in accordance with AR 20-1, AR 1-201, applicable Army policy, and the Command Inspector General's direction and delegated authority.

Major duties

• May perform authorized IG duties delegated to civilian IG personnel, consistent with law, regulation, and command policy.
• Conducts inquiries and prepares replies to complaints or allegations received from Department of the Army Inspector General (DAIG), Department of War IG (DoW IG), Congress, or the Executive Branch of the Federal Government.
• Provides technical guidance and advice to IG staff personnel conducting investigations, investigative inquiries and assistance reviews.
• Conducts all types of IG inspections IAW AR 1-201 and AR 20-1 on a broad area of management responsibilities, to include general, specific, and follow up inspections.
• Measures efficiency and effectiveness of command activities placing emphasis on identifying areas of fraud, waste, and abuse.
• Responsible for teaching and training service members and civilian employees on the proper procedure or policy as defined by the relevant standards.
• Perform Staff Assistance Visits (SAVs) and Organization Inspection Program (OIP) site inspections.
• Validates methodologies, requirements and initiatives are implemented and documented and performance measures are in place to validate efficiency, effectiveness and quality
• Reviews and acts on complaints or allegations that are extremely sensitive in nature.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience as an Inspector General (IG). This experience includes reviewing complaints and requests for assistance to determine applicable regulatory guidance and recommend an appropriate initial action; conducting preliminary fact-finding to validate allegations by gathering testimony or documentation in accordance with Inspector General standards; and drafting clear and unbiased summaries of inquiry results to support senior IG personnel in assessing issues. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Army Civilian Inspector general attributes: The best candidate may be a graduate of the Civilian Education System (CES) basic and intermediate courses and have an undergraduate degree. These educational qualifications are desirable but not required. Have broad, contemporary Army experience and background that reflects outstanding performance and demonstrated potential for future service. This experience is crucial to gain and maintain credibility with Soldiers, Family members, and Civilians when conducting IG functions. The best candidates will have had previous IG experience. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
