Non-Destructive Tester Leader

About the Position: Located at The McAlester Army Ammunition Plant as a Non-Destructive Tester Leader. Serves as Working Leader of 3 or more employees in accomplishing nondestructive testing. The highest level of non-supervisory work led is Nondestructive Tester WG-3705-11.

Major duties

• Serves as Working Leader of 3 or more employees in accomplishing nondestructive testing.
• Passes on to other workers instructions received form supervisor and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led).
• Insures that needed plans, blueprints, material and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
• Performs non-film x-ray, on component cables, projectiles, bombs, fuzes, fuze components, motor tubes and related explosive contents.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Non-Destructive Tester Leader without more than normal supervision. Maintain work progress by explaining assignments, showing junior personnel proper equipment setups, helping peers resolve routine inspection questions, and communicating job progress and safety issues to the supervisor. Independently set up and operate standard radiographic testing equipment (including Digital Radiography (DR) or conventional systems) to inspect munitions, metals, or structural components. As a certified NAS-410 Level 2 radiographer, I am skilled in performing accept/reject determinations in accordance with technical manuals, blueprints, and established criteria. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Metals Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT - The physical demands of this position range from light to heavy in physical exertions due to the equipment set-up requirements, type of materials and components. Mental alertness, manual dexterity and good eyesight are required. WORKING CONDITIONS - Subject to numerous hazardous conditions due to, handling or association with chemicals, explosive munitions, and radiographic elements. Included are toxic and skin irritating chemicals, fire hazards, explosive munitions and injurious rays (x-ray, etc.). Most of the incumbents work will be performed indoors in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated buildings.
