About the Position: Serves as a Technical Writer-Program Support in the Planning, Environmental, and Cultural Resources Branch (PECRB), as the principal resource for writing, editing, formatting, and finalizing technical documents and providing administrative support including timekeeping, travel, training, and personnel actions.

Major duties

  • Editing, formatting, and producing complex technical reports, planning documents, guidance, correspondence, and other publications for internal and external distribution.
  • Edits and formats briefings and presentations for Branch and Technical Center of Expertise (TCX) use.
  • Maintains and improves Branch editorial templates, formatting standards, and document production practices to promote consistency across organizational publications.
  • Serves as the Branch's primary timekeeper.
  • Coordinates all phases of official travel, ensuring compliance with Joint Travel Regulations and resolving routine travel documentation issues.
  • Maintains the Branch's workload management database by monitoring project scope, schedules, labor, funding, and status information.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-09 grade level: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes all of the following: 1) editing scientific/technical articles or reports; 2) using software systems (such as Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat) to organize data and compile documents; AND 3) timekeeping and travel coordination. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. This education includes at least 15 semester hours in related fields such as English or communications, and at least one course above the introductory level. For technical manuals and specifications writers or editors, the equivalent of 15 semester hours may have been gained through vocational or educational training above the high school level at a public, private, or Armed Forces school. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
