Biological Science Technician

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.. About the Position: Serves as a team member on the Pallid Sturgeon Habitat Assessment and Monitoring Program/Pallid Sturgeon Population Assessment Program. Performs environmental monitoring activities on the Missouri River for fish, zooplankton, macro invertebrates, water quality, etc

Major duties

• Performs environmental monitoring activities such as water quality monitoring, zooplankton sampling, macro invertebrates sampling, etc.
• Serves as a crew member on a team performing field tests and surveys involving the collection of water quality and lake sediment data from a boat and bridge crossings at standardized sample locations and occasionally on the Missouri River.
• The position requires travel to remote boat ramps along the Kanas City District Lakes Work days are usually long and overnight stays are often required. Working conditions can be difficult due to weather events and exposure to heat and sun.
• Serves as a crew member on a team performing field tests and surveys involving the collection of fisheries and water quality data from a boat on the Kansas City District Lakes and rivers.
• Assists with laboratory duties including preparing for planned water quality field work, using lab equipment, assisting with boat maintenance, and maintaining clean and safe conditions at the lab.
• Assists with preparation of reports on status of assessment field tests and justifications for changes in operating procedures.

Minimum Education Requirements: Applicants must have successful completion of 2 years of study that include at least 12 semester hours in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, limnology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience related to this position at the GS4 level or higher may be substituted for the education requirements.
