Infrastructure Technician

The Civil/Construction Technician will be responsible for supporting on-site civil and structural construction activities, ensuring that all works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, engineering specifications, quality standards, and applicable safety requirements.

 Key Responsibilities

-Carry out on-site concrete quality checks, including concrete surface hardness testing using a rebound hammer (Schmidt hammer)

 -Read, interpret, and verify civil and structural engineering drawings, specifications, and construction details.

• Support the Project Engineer and construction team in monitoring day-to-day civil and structural works.

• Conduct quality inspections of ongoing works and verify that construction activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.

• Inspect and witness the acceptance of concealed works before they are covered or enclosed.

• Demonstrate practical knowledge of the correct operation, handling, calibration requirements, and interpretation of rebound hammer test results.

• Record rebound hammer test results accurately and report any abnormal or inconsistent results to the Project Engineer for further investigation.

• Assist with monitoring concrete works, including checking formwork, reinforcement, dimensions, curing, and general workmanship.

• Monitor backfilling and soil-related works, including material suitability, layer thickness, compaction, and compliance with project specifications.

• Assist with field quality-control activities and coordinate with laboratory personnel where additional soil or concrete testing is required.

• Maintain accurate inspection records, test reports, checklists, site observations, and other construction documentation.

• Identify defects, non-conforming work, and potential quality issues and promptly report them to the responsible engineer.

• Assist in preparing daily site reports and documenting construction progress, inspections, and test results.

• Ensure that construction activities are carried out in accordance with approved method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), engineering standards, and project specifications.

• Promote and comply with site health, safety, and environmental requirements.

• Liaise with contractors, subcontractors, surveyors, laboratory technicians, and other site personnel as required.

• Perform other civil/construction technical duties assigned by the Project Engineer or Site Manager.

Educational & Professional Requirements

-Diploma, Higher National Diploma (HND), Bachelor's degree, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a related field.

• Relevant practical experience in civil/structural construction, site supervision, quality control, or construction inspection will be an advantage.

• Good knowledge of civil and structural construction methods and quality-control procedures.

• Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, architectural, and engineering drawings.

• Practical experience using a concrete rebound hammer/Schmidt hammer for on-site concrete assessment is required.

• Ability to correctly perform rebound hammer tests, record readings, and understand the limitations and appropriate use of the test results.

• Knowledge of quality-control procedures for concrete, soil, backfilling, and other civil works.

• Familiarity with inspection and testing procedures, construction specifications, and relevant engineering standards.

• Basic ability to prepare and maintain technical reports, inspection records, and construction documentation.

• Good understanding of construction site health and safety requirements.
