Community Storyteller (Lagos-Based Only)
Who We Are
For more than a decade, Twayne Safe Haven (TSH) has given young Nigerians a place to speak honestly and be heard. What started as a small storytelling circle has grown into a community that over 6,000 people have passed through, built entirely on volunteer effort, without a single grant or institution behind it.
We're currently in a rebuilding season. Our online spaces, once buzzing with conversation, have gone quiet as life pulled people in different directions. We haven't lost the vision. We're simply working to bring it back to life.
If you've ever needed someone to just listen, without judging or trying to fix you, you already understand what TSH is for.
What We're Building
We're recruiting a small group of Community Voices to help reawaken TSH's online spaces, starting with our Facebook community, where roughly 70% of this work happens.
Facebook will be the main community space, with Instagram and WhatsApp also playing supporting roles in how we share stories, connect with members, and keep the community engaged. There may also be occasional in-person participation in Lagos when needed.
This isn't a content calendar job. It's an invitation to show up as yourself, share what you're actually going through, and help other young people feel safe enough to do the same. If you've ever posted something honest online and had someone reply "me too, thank you for saying this," that's the feeling we're trying to rebuild at scale.
What This Looks Like Day to Day
Sharing honest reflections, lessons, wins, and struggles from your own life, primarily within our Facebook community Supporting and engaging with members across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp Responding to and encouraging members who post, especially when they're being vulnerable Helping new and returning members feel welcomed rather than ignored Helping share and amplify meaningful stories across our online spaces Bringing ideas for what would make the community feel more alive Joining occasional online or in-person check-ins with the rest of the team
This role will shift as the community grows. Early on, it's about seeding activity. Later, it becomes more about sustaining and guiding it.
Who Should Apply
No professional resume required. What matters more:
You're genuinely okay putting your own story, face, and reflections out there You'd rather help someone else open up than build a following for yourself You care about mental health and wellbeing, even informally You show up consistently, not just when it's convenient You're based in Lagos. This role is Lagos-only. Most of the work is online, but consistent, active presence across our online community spaces is central to it, and we need volunteers who are genuinely part of this city.
Experience in writing, content, community work, or nonprofits helps but isn't required.
Read This Before You Apply
This role runs primarily through Facebook, with Instagram and WhatsApp also forming part of the community experience. If you don't use these platforms regularly, or won't have consistent access to them, this isn't the right role for you right now, no matter how strong a fit you are otherwise.
The Terms
This is unpaid, roughly 5 to 7 hours a week, for an initial six-month commitment. In return, you'll get real hands-on experience in community building and storytelling, and a front-row seat in reviving something that's already touched thousands of lives.
