Our Requirements

  • Completed vocational training as a Biological-Technical Assistant (or comparable training) with experience in laboratory routines, handling laboratory equipment, as well as methods of microscopy and cell culture
  • Very good knowledge of aseptic techniques
  • Independent, careful, and reliable way of working
  • Strong communication skills as well as good English skills
  • High degree of flexibility and teamwork
  • Interest in working in an academic environment and in supporting doctoral students and students with their research projects.

Your Tasks

  • Responsibilities for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our existing biology lab:
  • Production, handling, and cataloging of cell cultures
  • Characterization of cell lines as well as documentation of cell culture processes, including observations, quality control data, and deviations
  • Management and documentation of laboratory inventory and related safety-relevant documents (safety protocols, occupational safety records)
  • Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Ensuring uninterrupted laboratory operation through systematic knowledge transfer as well as the establishment of a robust substitution and backup plan
  • Organization and responsibility for laboratory hygiene and professional waste disposal
  • Support in the conception and development of a prototype for a semi-automated biology lab:
  • Carrying out manual experiments and characterization tests to establish benchmark metrics for laboratory automation
  • Testing and integration of digitized processes and automation devices into regular workflows, e.g., liquid-handling devices and robots
  • Support in the development of a LIMS through testing, continuous data entry, as well as the standardization of laboratory documentation, templates, and data structures
  • Contribution to the further development of the prototype in the new TUM ELI Center (TUM Center for Embodied Laboratory Intelligence), the first AI experimental space for automatic knowledge generation
  • Practical support for ongoing and future projects in research and teaching.

Our Offer

We offer an interesting and simultaneously challenging activity at the TUM. Remuneration is according to the Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst der Länder (TV-L). The position is available immediately, initially limited to two years with the option of subsequent permanent employment. The position is suitable for appointment with severely disabled people. Severely disabled applicants will be given preference if their suitability is otherwise essentially equal.
