Education:
Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
Work setting:
Various locations.
Tasks:
- Prepare, measure and mark surfaces to be covered.
- Mix, apply and spread mortar, cement, mastic, glue or other adhesives using hand trowel.
- Set tiles in place and apply pressure to affix them to base.
- Align and straighten tiles.
- Cut and fit tiles around obstacles and openings using hand and power cutting tools.
- Pack grout into joints between tiles and remove excess grout.
- Remove and replace cracked or damaged tiles.
- Install tile strips.
- Utilize laser alignment system.
- Measure, cut, fit and install drywall sheets.
- Install exterior and interior steel studs.
- Install vapour barriers and thermal and sound insulation.
- Position and secure sheets to metal or wooden studs or joists.
- Cut openings in lath for heating and ventilation piping, ducts and electrical outlets.
- Prepare wall and ceiling layouts.
Work conditions and physical capabilities:
Physically demanding. Handling heavy loads. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Hand-eye co-ordination. Work under pressure. Standing for extended periods.
Own tools/equipment:
Steel-toed safety boots.
