The Canteen Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking meals for customers in a canteen environment. The cook ensures that food is prepared according to the required recipes, quality standards, hygiene requirements, and daily operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals and dishes according to the menu.
  • Prepare ingredients such as meat, vegetables, seafood, sauces, spices, and other food items.
  • Follow recipes and maintain consistent taste, quality, and portion sizes.
  • Ensure food is cooked properly and served at the appropriate temperature.
  • Prepare food in sufficient quantities according to expected customer demand.
  • Assist with preparation of breakfast, lunch, dinner, or other meals as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen and cooking areas.
  • Properly clean and sanitise cooking utensils, equipment, and work surfaces.
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of raw and cooked food.
  • Monitor the freshness and quality of ingredients before use.
  • Minimise food wastage and use ingredients efficiently.
  • Assist with receiving, checking, and storing food supplies when required.
  • Follow food safety and hygiene procedures at all times.
  • Report shortages of ingredients, equipment problems, or food quality issues to the supervisor.
  • Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth food preparation and service.
  • Assist with cleaning and closing duties after meal preparation and service.
  • Perform other kitchen duties assigned by the supervisor or management.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a cook in a canteen, restaurant, food court, or catering establishment is preferred.
  • Able to prepare and cook different types of dishes.
  • Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safe food handling.
  • Able to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods.
  • Responsible, reliable, and able to work as part of a team.
  • Willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays where required.
