Autonomous Vehicle Safety Operator (Safety Driver)
About the role We are looking for Autonomous Vehicle Safety Operators / Safety Drivers to support testing, validation, commercial rollout, and scaling of autonomous vehicle (AV) fleets and robotaxi fleets in Europe. As an Autonomous Vehicle Safety Operator, you will play a crucial role in the safe operation of self-driving vehicles during testing programs, pilots, and commercial autonomous ride-hailing services. You will work closely with engineering, fleet operations, and depot operations to monitor vehicle behavior, oversee operational procedures, and intervene manually when necessary. Experience with autonomous vehicles is not required. We offer full training in autonomous driving systems, operational procedures, and safety protocols. We are looking for experienced and responsible drivers with excellent situational awareness who want to contribute to the future of autonomous mobility. Key responsibilities Operation of autonomous vehicles
Safely operate and monitor autonomous vehicles during testing, validation, and commercial robotaxi fleet operations.
Continuously monitor the performance of the self-driving system and remain fully aware of the traffic situation.
Immediately take manual control when operational procedures or safety protocols require it.
Execute assigned routes in accordance with local traffic rules and company procedures.
Support the successful deployment of autonomous ride-hailing services through safe and consistent vehicle operation.
Fleet readiness and vehicle inspection
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure each autonomous vehicle is deployment-ready.
Monitor vehicle cleanliness and inspect cameras, sensors, mirrors, lighting, and other critical systems before every shift.
Report damage, abnormal vehicle behavior, or maintenance needs to depot and technical teams.
Support general fleet readiness by keeping vehicles available for daily operations.
Data collection and operational reporting
Record disengagements, observations, and operational events in company reporting tools.
Provide clear and structured feedback on vehicle behavior, traffic situations, and unusual scenarios during tests or commercial operations.
Support engineering teams by documenting situations that improve the performance of autonomous driving systems.
Maintain accurate operational records and complete all required documentation.
Safety and compliance
Follow all operational procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
Participate in ongoing training, certification, and safety refreshers.
Remain professional when interacting with the public during autonomous vehicle testing and robotaxi operations.
Support continuous improvement initiatives that increase the safety and efficiency of autonomous fleet operations.
Requirements Essential
Valid European driver's license.
Minimum of 5 years of driving experience.
Clean driving record without serious violations.
Able to successfully pass a background verification (BGV).
Able to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screening.
Excellent situational awareness and defensive driving skills.
Comfortable with longer drives in urban and highway environments.
Able to follow detailed procedures accurately.
Good communication and reporting skills.
English at an upper-intermediate level.
Desired
Experience as a professional driver, fleet driver, chauffeur, ride-hailing driver, or vehicle tester.
Experience with automotive testing, ADAS validation, mapping, or fleet operations.
Familiarity with electric vehicles (EVs).
Experience in shift-based or 24/7 operational environments.
