Safety Driver / Autonomous Vehicle Safety Operator (Safety Driver)

About the Role We are looking for Safety Drivers for autonomous vehicles (Autonomous Vehicle Safety Operators / Safety Drivers) to support the testing, validation, commercial launch, and scaling of autonomous vehicle (AV) and robotaxi fleets in Europe. As an Autonomous Vehicle Safety Driver, you will play a central role in the safe operation of self-driving vehicles during test programs, pilot projects, and commercial autonomous ride-hailing services. Working closely with Engineering, Fleet Operations, and Depot Operations, you will monitor vehicle behavior, ensure compliance with operational procedures, and intervene manually when necessary. Prior experience with autonomous vehicles is not required. You will receive comprehensive training on autonomous driving systems, operating processes, and safety protocols. We are looking for experienced, responsible drivers with excellent situational awareness who want to contribute to the future of autonomous mobility. Main Tasks Operation of autonomous vehicles

Safely operate and monitor autonomous vehicles during testing, validation, and commercial robotaxi fleet operations.

Continuously monitor the performance of the self-driving system while maintaining full awareness of the traffic situation.

Immediately take manual control of the vehicle when required by procedures or safety protocols.

Execute assigned routes in compliance with local traffic rules and company procedures.

Support the successful deployment of autonomous ride-hailing services through safe and consistent vehicle operation.

Fleet readiness and vehicle inspection

Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure every autonomous vehicle is deployment-ready.

Check vehicle cleanliness as well as cameras, sensors, mirrors, lighting, and other critical systems before every shift.

Report damage, unusual vehicle behavior, or maintenance needs to depot and technical teams.

Support fleet readiness by ensuring vehicles remain available for daily operation.

Data collection and operational reporting

Document disengagements, observations, and operational events in the reporting tools.

Provide clear and structured feedback on vehicle behavior, traffic situations, and unusual scenarios from test or commercial deployments.

Support engineering teams by documenting situations that improve autonomous driving systems.

Maintain accurate operational records and complete all required documentation.

Safety and Compliance

Comply with all operating procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.

Participate in ongoing training, certifications, and safety refreshers.

Act professionally during interactions with the public during autonomous vehicle testing and robotaxi operations.

Support initiatives for the continuous improvement of safety and efficiency of autonomous fleets.

Requirements Essential

Valid European driver's license.

At least 5 years of driving experience.

Clean driving record without serious violations.

Ability to successfully pass a Background Verification (BGV).

Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests.

Excellent situational awareness and defensive driving behavior.

Willingness to undertake longer drives in urban and highway environments.

Ability to follow detailed procedures very precisely.

Good communication and reporting skills.

English at an upper-intermediate level.

Desirable

Experience as a professional driver, fleet driver, chauffeur, ride-hailing driver, or vehicle tester.

Experience in automotive testing, ADAS validation, mapping, or fleet operations.

Experience or interest in Electric Vehicles (EVs).

Experience in shift work, extended operating hours, or 24/7 environments.
