I’m partnering with a large, multi site Staffordshire business to appoint an Assistant Financial Controller into one of its key business units. It’s an organisation with real scale and complexity, where finance has a strong voice and good people are given the exposure to build their careers. This is a role for someone who wants more than a reporting seat. The split is roughly 40% financial reporting and 60% business partnering, so you’ll spend most of your time working alongside senior operational and commercial leaders, shaping decisions and building a reputation across a large, complex organisation. For the right person, this is a genuine platform to get your name known and step up to Financial Controller.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll work closely with the Financial Controller to run monthly reporting, P&L and variance analysis for the business unit, but the real value you’ll add is in what happens next: turning the numbers into clear, persuasive insight and recommendations that senior stakeholders act on. You’ll also:

  • Act as the go to finance partner for leaders across the business unit, influencing performance and investment decisions
  • Appraise investment proposals for new products and capital expenditure, and assess financial risk
  • Own budgets, forecasts and monthly cash flow forecasting
  • Lead year end and the external audit relationship, keeping controls and statutory reporting in great shape
  • Produce KPI reporting and ad hoc analysis for management
  • Lead and develop a small team, helping them grow alongside you

What you’ll bring

  • ACA or ACCA qualified
  • Confidence in front of senior stakeholders and the ability to explain complex numbers simply
  • Hands on experience of audits and statutory accounting
  • A proactive, people focused approach to leadership

Equally, if you’re in practice and considering your first move into industry, I’d love to hear from you. The reporting and audit side of the role will play to your strengths, while the business partnering gives you the commercial exposure that’s hard to get anywhere else.
