About Us Total Finance Management provides outsourced finance and accountancy services to a portfolio of clients, from bookkeeping, accounts preparation and tax compliance to management reporting and proactive financial advice.

Role Purpose We are looking for an experienced Client Accountant to take ownership of a portfolio of clients. You will be the main point of contact for your clients, managing their accounting and tax work, responding to queries and identifying where they need further support. This is a hands-on role with a high degree of autonomy. You will plan and deliver work across your portfolio, use your judgement to resolve technical issues and escalate complex matters when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of clients, using FreeAgent, TaxCalc, BrightManager and otherpractice software.
  • Act as the main point of contact for clients, answering questions by telephone and emailand providing clear, practical advice throughout their business lifecycle, from incorporation to closure.
  • Prepare year-end statutory accounts and corporation tax computations from start tofinish, including gathering client information, resolving queries, completing the work and submitting the final returns.
  • Prepare and review Self Assessment tax returns for sole traders, company directors andother individuals, liaising with clients to obtain the information needed for filing.
  • Prepare, review and file VAT returns, and resolve bookkeeping and reconciliation issuesahead of deadlines.

Provide approachable guidance on tax efficiency, payroll, cash flow and day-to-day financial management, referring specialist matters where needed.

  • Prepare management accounts and support the preparation of budgets, forecasts and cash flow reports.
  • Manage client jobs and deadlines through BrightManager, working with the wider team to meet statutory filing dates and monthly office deadlines.
  • Handle company secretarial filings and maintain statutory records using CoSec.
  • Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and where clients may benefit from additional accountancy or finance support.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Part-qualified or qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, AAT, or equivalent) — or QBE with relevant experience
  • Background within Accountancy Practice
  • Experience of preparing Year-End Accounts and Tax Computations
  • Experience of working with SME and Owner-Managed businesses
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end statutory accounts, tax returns, and client advisory within a small business setting.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and explain complex accountancy concepts simply.
  • Confident, accountable, and comfortable offering honest guidance to business owners.
