Trainee Freight Forwarder

Our client, a freight forwarder is looking for a Trainee Freight Forwarder to join their office in Basildon.

This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to build a career in customs, freight forwarding, import/export, or logistics.

The successful candidate will receive full training and will support the team with the preparation and processing of customs documentation, ensuring shipments are handled accurately and in accordance with relevant customs requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and submission of import and export customs declarations.
• Enter and maintain accurate shipment and customs information on internal systems.
• Assist with checking commodity codes, customs procedures, duties and taxes under supervision.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers, hauliers, freight forwarders and customs authorities when required.
• Monitor shipments and assist with resolving customs or documentation queries.
• Ensure customs paperwork is complete, accurate and filed correctly.
• Maintain accurate records in line with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Keep up to date with company procedures and relevant customs requirements.
• Provide general administrative support to the customs and logistics department.

Training & Development

The successful candidate will be provided with training in:

• Import and export customs procedures.
• Customs declarations and clearance processes.
• Commodity classification and customs codes.
• Customs duties, VAT and other applicable charges.
• Customs documentation and record keeping.
• Relevant customs systems and software.
• Compliance requirements and internal procedures.
