Automation Engineer for global industrial projects
Do you want to develop automation globally at Suzuki Garphyttan and work closely with production, projects, and new technology?
Do you want to combine deep technical problem-solving within PLC and electrical design with international commissioning in live production? At Suzuki Garphyttan, you will step into a key role where you develop, standardize, and commission automation solutions for our manufacturing units worldwide. You will work close to operations in a stable industrial group that combines 120 years of tradition with short decision-making paths, modern technology, and a strong collaborative culture. Welcome with your application!
Your employment offer
- An international technical responsibility with great freedom and short decision-making paths.
- Close collaboration in a competent team that covers the entire chain from electrical/PLC to MES and data-driven production.
- Collective agreement, 30 days of vacation, wellness allowance, subsidized lunches, own gym, and free parking.
Your tasks
In this role, you will work broadly and project-oriented with a focus on new installations, re-builds, and commissioning rather than pure line maintenance. You belong to the automation group within IT/Digitalization and have close collaboration with production, maintenance, and MES.
- Drive and participate in technical automation projects linked to machine investments and process improvements.
- Program, configure, and optimize PLC systems.
- Program and commission drive systems.
- Read, review, and if necessary, design electrical schematics as well as specify hardware.
- Responsible for commissioning and testing on-site in production – both locally in Garphyttan and at our global production facilities.
- Follow, maintain, and further develop the group's standards for hardware and software to ensure operational reliability and uniformity.
- Coordinate with suppliers and collaborate cross-functionally with colleagues at all levels in the organization.
Worth knowing
The position is based at the facility in Garphyttan. Since the role supports the group's global investments, travel is included as needed, which comprises approximately 10–16 travel weeks per year (periodically in continuous blocks during larger commissionings at factories in, among others, Mexico, China, and the USA).
Our expectations
- Several years of practical experience in industrial automation and commissioning within manufacturing industry or process industry.
- Good experience with PLC programming (especially Siemens TIA Portal).
- Experience in reading schematics and electrical design in a CAD environment (e.g., ELPROCAD).
- Experience working both independently and in teams in a production environment, as well as making technical decisions at the machine line.
- Fluent English in speech and writing (Swedish is a merit).
- Driver's license B and full willingness and possibility for international business travel.
Merit: Experience with safety-PLC, drive systems (e.g., Sinamics), interfaces to MES/databases, or a background from steel, metal, or heavy process industry.
As a person, you are confident in your competence, collaborative, and unpretentious. You need to be able to stand by your technical assessments, even in dialogue with very experienced specialists, and at the same time be receptive to others' perspectives. You are self-driven, solution-oriented, and motivated by development, improvements, and concrete results in production.
