Personal Tax Client Advisor

Our client, an independent London firm of chartered accountants and business advisers, is looking for a CTA-qualified Personal Tax Client Advisor to join its advisory team, working with entrepreneurs and internationally mobile individuals. This is a role built around advice and relationships rather than processing returns.

Why This Firm

Very few accountancy practices reach their second century, and this one is celebrating well over a hundred years in London while still behaving like a business on the way up. It is partner-led, with a partner group in the 6–10 range, and has spent the last decade or so reinventing itself from traditional accountants into advisers, adding outsourced finance, corporate finance, fund accounting, R&D tax credits and ESG advisory along the way. Hiring is active across tax, audit and corporate finance, and the firm is the exclusive English member for private client tax in a global professional network spanning well over 150 jurisdictions, so cross-border questions arrive as a matter of course. This is a firm where you are known by the partners, not lost in a headcount.

It is also a place where people visibly move up. Current partners include someone who joined as a trainee and someone who reached partner within a few years of arriving from a larger firm, and the team page is full of graduates, career-changers and ex-receptionists who are now managers and seniors. The firm has long been an ICAEW-approved training office, staff attend a serious amount of training each year, and the culture is built on four stated values: working together, investing in people, entrepreneurial spirit and delivering results. The office sits beside Waterloo Station, the team is young, sociable and diverse, and there are paid volunteering days for those who want to give something back.

What The Job Actually Involves

  • Acting as the trusted adviser to a portfolio of high-net-worth entrepreneurs, from owner-managers to internationally mobile clients
  • Giving strategic advice that joins up their business and personal affairs, including structuring, transactions and personal tax planning
  • Leading client meetings and explaining complex points clearly, confidently and in commercial terms
  • Spotting planning opportunities and guiding clients through complex transactions from first conversation to completion
  • Overseeing compliance rather than doing it, so that returns are accurate, reviewed and signed off on time and within budget
  • Helping to win new work and deepen existing relationships, with real rewards for doing so

What You'll Need

  • CTA qualified (essential)
  • A track record in a client-facing advisory role
  • Strong technical knowledge across UK corporate and personal tax
  • The presence and communication skills to hold your own with sophisticated, successful clients
  • A commercial, proactive and solutions-first outlook
  • The ability to earn credibility quickly and be seen as an adviser, not a service provider

What's On Offer

A highly competitive salary sits alongside attractive new business incentives, so the clients you bring in and grow are reflected in what you earn. You will work with a client base of genuinely interesting entrepreneurs, in a collaborative, high-performance environment where the partners are approachable and there is real scope to shape the role around your strengths and to progress as the advisory practice grows. Add a central London location by Waterloo, structured training and a team that socialises together, and you have a firm that invests in its people rather than simply employing them.

If you are an ambitious CTA-qualified adviser who wants more client contact, more influence and a firm that will notice your contribution, get in touch.
