1:1 Teaching Assistant
Year 4 Some children don’t need someone to simply sit beside them in the classroom. They need someone who can understand how they communicate, recognise when things are becoming difficult, and help them access learning in a way that works for them.
We’re looking for a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Year 4 pupil in a welcoming primary school in Cheltenham. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity starting after the half term break, with no current end date.
The role You’ll work closely with the pupil and the wider school team to provide consistent, individualised support throughout the school day.
The pupil has Communication and Interaction needs and is working cognitively below the level of their peers. They will benefit from an adult who can provide patient, calm and consistent support, helping them to engage with classroom learning, develop their independence and feel confident within the school environment.
The role will also involve personal care, as the pupil currently requires support with toileting and wears pull-ups.
Your day could involve: Providing dedicated 1:1 support within the classroom and wider school environment Helping the pupil access and engage with learning activities Adapting and breaking down tasks to make learning accessible Supporting communication and interaction with adults and peers Encouraging independence and celebrating small steps of progress Helping with emotional regulation and transitions throughout the school day Providing appropriate personal care and toileting support Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo and wider support team Building a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil
What we're looking for We're looking for someone who is patient, nurturing and genuinely passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning.
Experience supporting children with SEND, Communication and Interaction needs, developmental delay or additional learning needs would be highly beneficial.

What matters is that you are: Calm and patient Compassionate and understanding Confident supporting personal care needs Able to build strong relationships with children Consistent and reliable Comfortable working as part of a wider school team Committed to helping a child develop their confidence and independence
