Our client is a well-established freight forwarding business seeking an experienced Multi Modal Export & Cross Trade Operator to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a freight forwarding professional with strong export and cross-trade experience across sea, air, and road freight.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing export bookings from start to finish while delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining compliance, and supporting the continued growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities - Export Operator

• Manage and coordinate multi-modal export shipments across sea, air and road freight.
• Oversee the daily management of export bookings from enquiry through to completion.
• Handle cross-trade shipments and ensure all movements are completed efficiently and cost-effectively.
• Ensure customer requirements are met and exceeded wherever possible.
• Liaise with carriers, hauliers, customs authorities, overseas agents, and 3PL providers.
• Prepare and manage export and customs documentation.
• Negotiate rates with suppliers and logistics providers to secure competitive pricing.
• Monitor shipment progress and provide regular updates to customers.
• Manage collections, overseas deliveries, and freight forwarding enquiries.
• Create and maintain shipments within LBase.
• Ensure all costs and charges are accurately recorded and invoiced.
• Maintain compliance with all export regulations and company procedures.
• Support sales activities by assisting with leads and identifying opportunities for new and existing clients.
• Work closely with the Branch Manager to maximise departmental profitability.
• Assist colleagues during busy periods and provide holiday cover when required.
• Liaise with the accounts team regarding invoicing, costing, and profit queries.
• Train and support new team members as required.

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience within freight forwarding and export operations.
• Strong knowledge of multi-modal freight movements including sea, air, and road.
• Cross-trade shipment experience is essential.
• Good understanding of customs procedures and export documentation.
• Experience using freight forwarding systems such as LBase.
• Ability to negotiate rates and manage supplier relationships.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Commercial awareness and customer-focused approach.
• Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously.
• Experience supporting or mentoring team members would be advantageous.
