Primary Curriculum Specialist Setting – Birmingham

Are you an SEMH teacher with primary experience looking for a rewarding new opportunity at a local school? This role would suit a QTS teacher who has experience delivering the Primary curriculum and understands how to adapt teaching for pupils who may have experienced significant barriers to education. A trauma-informed approach is essential. You will need to understand that behaviour is often a form of communication and be able to respond calmly, consistently and compassionately, while still maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations. You will teach a small class, providing a structured and engaging learning environment where pupils can rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships and make progress academically and personally.

Job Role:

  • Teach a small class of pupils with SEMH needs
  • Plan and deliver the Primary curriculum
  • Adapt lessons to meet individual learning and SEMH needs
  • Use a trauma-informed approach to teaching and behaviour
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Establish clear routines, boundaries and expectations
  • Manage challenging behaviour calmly and consistently
  • Support pupils to re-engage with education and develop confidence
  • Monitor progress and adapt teaching accordingly
  • Work closely with Teaching Assistants and specialist colleagues

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status or relevant teaching experience
  • Previous experience teaching the Primary curriculum
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs
  • A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach
  • The ability to build strong relationships with pupils
