Monitoring And Evaluation Specialist
About the company
TEDxMaitama is an independently organized TED event in Abuja, operating under licence from TED. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, we bring together thinkers, builders and creatives through our Annual Conference, community programmes and digital events. Our 2027 Annual Conference, themed “Africa for the World,” will host up to 5,000 attendees over two days of talks, performances, breakout sessions, an innovation showcase and cultural experiences.
Your tasks
The M&E Specialist will design and run the systems that tell us whether TEDxMaitama is delivering on its promise to attendees, speakers, partners and the wider community. You will turn event activity into clear evidence: what we reached, what changed, what partners gained, and what we should do better. Your work will feed directly into partner reports, programme decisions and our accountability to TED’s licensing standards.
M&E framework and planning
- Develop a results framework (theory of change, logframe and KPI dashboard) for the 2027 Annual Conference and year-round programmes.
- Define measurable indicators across reach, engagement, satisfaction, learning, partner value and operational performance.
- Set baselines and targets with the Curator and team leads before each event cycle.
Data collection and tools
- Design pre-event, on-site and post-event surveys for attendees, speakers, volunteers and partners.
- Track registration, check-in, attendance, session participation and showcase engagement data.
- Monitor webinar series performance, including registrations, attendance, engagement and qualified leads generated for featured partners.
- Collect digital metrics (talk views, social reach, website and newsletter performance) with the Communications team.
- Ensure data is collected ethically, with informed consent and in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act.
Analysis and reporting
- Produce post-event impact reports and concise partner/sponsor reports showing visibility, audience and lead outcomes.
- Maintain a live KPI dashboard for the Curator and organizing team.
- Capture qualitative evidence: attendee stories, testimonials and case studies of ideas or ventures that grew from TEDxMaitama.
- Lead after-action reviews and translate findings into practical recommendations.
Quality, compliance and learning
- Track adherence to TEDx Rules across programming, partner visibility and branding, flagging risks early to the Curator.
- Monitor delivery against the event plan (timelines, budgets, vendor and volunteer performance).
- Build a simple learning archive so each event cycle improves on the last.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Economics, Development Studies, Business or a related field.
- At least 2 years’ experience in monitoring and evaluation, research or data analysis, ideally in events, nonprofits, development programmes or the creative/tech sector.
- Practical skill in survey design and tools such as KoboToolbox, Google Forms, Typeform or SurveyMonkey.
- Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills; experience with Power BI, Looker Studio or Tableau is an advantage.
- Comfort with both quantitative and qualitative methods.
- Excellent report writing, with the ability to present findings clearly to partners and non-technical audiences.
Desirable
- Experience measuring large events, conferences or community programmes.
- Familiarity with TED/TEDx or similar ideas-led platforms.
- Experience preparing sponsor or donor impact reports.
- Professional M&E training or certification.
- Rigour and curiosity: you ask “how do we know?” and follow the evidence.
- Integrity: you report honestly, including what did not work.
- Team spirit: you work well with programming, partnerships, production and communications teams.
- Reliability under pressure, especially during live event days.
