The Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology is part of Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC, https://www.upsc.se/), which is a center of excellence for experimental plant research and forest biotechnology in northern Sweden. UPSC aims to conduct excellent and innovative fundamental research and create knowledge for the benefit of forestry, agriculture, the environment, and society. We study plants from the cellular level up to ecophysiology, and from fundamental research to industrial applications. We seek to understand the ability of plants to grow, adapt, and acclimatize to a changing world—knowledge that can lead to better plant varieties, cultivation practices, or industrial processes.

About the job

The long-term goal of our research is to understand the signaling mechanisms that regulate plant growth and development (https://www.upsc.se/stephanie_robert). You will be part of a team working to create a better understanding of the signaling that governs cell fate determination in the Arabidopsis root. The current postdoctoral researcher will focus on elucidating the mechanisms of action for positional information signaling in this process.

The project is a collaborative project between four different research groups and is based on cell biological methods, including live confocal microscopy, molecular biology, microfluidics, electrophysiology, and studies of cell wall biology.

Your background

Applicants must have a doctoral degree in molecular biology, cell biology, or developmental biology, or in a related field. Furthermore, applicants must have good proficiency in English, both spoken and written, as well as the ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with others. Experience with confocal microscopy, Arabidopsis, and root development is meritorious.

The employment is intended for a junior researcher, and we are primarily seeking individuals who obtained their doctoral degree no more than three years ago.
