Research Coordinator

Grants Office at Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet (SLU GO) is seeking an experienced, competent, and engaged research coordinator who is proactive, well-versed in external research funding, and motivated to make a real difference for the researchers at the university.

About the job

As our new research coordinator, you will primarily collaborate with SLU researchers who coordinate grant applications for collaborative projects, such as Horisont Europa Pillar II, MSCA Doctoral Networks, and European Partnerships, with the flexibility to support other initiatives as needed. You will provide advice, guidance, and support to researchers coordinating applications from SLU by helping to develop concepts, review application texts, and suggest improvements. Additionally, you will offer support throughout SLU through information, capacity building, and communication efforts.

More specifically, together with colleagues, you will:

• Support researchers seeking external research funding, primarily by providing constructive feedback on application drafts and helping to design clear and compelling narratives that align with the call guidelines.
• Disseminate information about upcoming funding opportunities, proactively identify potential applicants, and encourage them to apply.
• Design and conduct seminars and workshops focusing on funders, funding opportunities, and application writing, as well as contribute to events in collaboration with other units at SLU.
• Contribute perspectives on external funding strategies, including those discussed by SLU's strategic team for external funding.
• Represent the Grants Office and SLU in internal and external networks.
• Support Grants Office communication and outreach activities, such as newsletters and websites, as well as develop self-study materials.

This list is not exhaustive and may change depending on the needs of SLU and the Grants Office. There is also room to propose new working methods and initiatives based on your personal skills and interests. The work may involve occasional travel within the country and abroad.

Qualifications

Basic

• Experience working with research support within a university or research institute.
• Ability to understand complex calls and funding applications, as well as to provide clear advice and guidance to researchers.
• Experience with Horisont Europa, Pillar II.
• Knowledge of and understanding of national and international funding sources, including their guidelines and mechanisms.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Confidence, adaptability, and the ability to work independently and collaborate with others.
• Ability to prioritize your own workload under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining high quality.
• Excellent social skills with the ability to develop professional relationships and networks at all levels within and outside the university.
• Excellent proficiency in English, both written and oral.
• University degree.

Merit-based

• Research education and/or research experience.
• Experience working at a research funder or as an expert reviewer of applications or projects.
• Experience with MSCA Doctoral Networks, European partnerships, or other funding programs for collaborative projects.
• Knowledge of EU research policy.
• Experience in writing or contributing to large research grant applications.
• Experience in information and communication work, e.g., newsletters, websites, or blogs, or organizing information events.
• Experience in designing and conducting training.
• Knowledge of how AI can be used in an adequate, effective, and responsible manner in connection with research applications.
• Proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written (SLU's language policy requires staff to be able to understand information in Swedish after four years of employment).

SLU Grants Office is a unit within the Department of Planning and Research Support. We offer expertise, support, advice, and information regarding external research funding to researchers, administrators, and university management. Our friendly, helpful, and professional team has broad experience and expertise, enabling us to offer strategic and operational support both before and after the awarding of grants. Our work focuses on advice regarding application writing with constructive feedback, budgeting, administration, and project management, but we also work with information and capacity building. We are located at SLU's main campuses – Alnarp, Ultuna, and Umeå – but work together to support the entire university.

Interview process:

Step 1 Online interview in English (approx. 30 minutes) and a written assignment (max. 1 hour).

Step 2 Personal interview in English (1 hour).

Location:

Alnarp (near Lund), Ultuna (near Uppsala), or Umeå. The position involves domestic and international travel.

Employment type:

Temporary position for two years.

Extent:

100%. Remote work is possible (max. 2 days per week).
