Position Summary

Sun Test Systems, Inc. is seeking a Quality Inspector to join our Quality team and play a critical role in ensuring products meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction. This position inspects incoming materials and components, supports First Article Inspections (FAI), and performs in-process and final testing inspections. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, hands-on quality professional who takes pride in getting things right, understands the importance of traceability and documentation, and is motivated to help build a strong, consistent, and proactive quality culture. At STS, quality is more than an inspection at the end of the process—it is a commitment shared across the organization. This role works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Program Management to ensure every product delivered to customers meets applicable requirements.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Receiving Inspection

Inspect incoming materials, components, assemblies, and purchased products for conformance with purchase orders, drawings, specifications, and applicable quality requirements.

Review supplier documentation, including Certificates of Conformance, material certifications, test reports, and other required records.

Verify part numbers, revisions, quantities, dimensions, workmanship, and identification/traceability.

Use precision measuring equipment and inspection tools to evaluate product conformity.

Document inspection results and maintain accurate receiving inspection records.

Identify, document, and communicate nonconforming material in accordance with STS procedures.

Coordinate with Supply Chain, Quality, and suppliers to support timely resolution of receiving discrepancies.

First Article Inspection (FAI)

Support the planning, preparation, and execution of FAIs in accordance with applicable customer, contractual, and internal requirements.

Review engineering drawings, specifications, purchase orders, and manufacturing documentation to identify inspection requirements.

Perform dimensional and visual inspections required to support FAI documentation.

Assist in preparing and maintaining First Article Inspection Reports and supporting documentation.

Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality personnel to resolve discrepancies and ensure FAI requirements are satisfied.

Support the review and closure of FAI findings and ensure records are complete, accurate, and traceable.

Testing and Product Inspection

Perform in-process, final, and functional inspections and testing in accordance with approved procedures, work instructions, drawings, and specifications.

Verify product configuration, workmanship, labeling, and required documentation prior to release.

Use mechanical, electrical, and/or electronic test equipment, as applicable to the product and assigned responsibilities.

Accurately record test results and identify conditions that may affect product performance or customer acceptance.

Support troubleshooting and root-cause investigations when inspection or testing identifies a discrepancy.

Partner with Manufacturing and Engineering to ensure corrective actions are effective and requirements are consistently met.

Quality System Support

Maintain accurate, timely, and complete inspection and testing records.

Support internal audits, customer audits, and quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Identify recurring defects, process issues, and opportunities for improvement.

Promote adherence to STS quality procedures, work instructions, and applicable customer and regulatory requirements.

Contribute to a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

High school diploma or equivalent.

2+ years of experience in quality inspection, receiving inspection, manufacturing inspection, or a related field.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection requirements.

Experience using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, or comparable equipment.

Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately identify discrepancies.

Ability to clearly document inspection results and maintain accurate records.

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment and collaborate across functional teams.

Must be a U.S. citizen and meet any other federal program requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience performing or supporting First Article Inspections (FAI).

Experience with receiving inspection and supplier quality documentation.

Experience performing electrical, mechanical, functional, or systems testing.

Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, or other quality management system requirements.

Experience using an ERP, QMS, or electronic inspection/document control system.

Experience in aerospace, defense, military, electronics, or precision manufacturing.

Required Education and Experience

At least 4 years of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination.

Experience in engineering sectors with the federal government or DoD preferred.

Work Environment

Manufacturing and inspection environment.

Regular interaction with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality personnel.

May require standing, walking, lifting, and handling materials or equipment in accordance with applicable safety requirements.

Must be able to use required personal protective equipment and follow all STS safety policies.
