School Kitchen Assistant (FCE / NFS)
π Working Hours & Schedule
- Mondays to Thursdays: 7:15 AM β 4:15 PM (Includes a 30-minute lunch break)
- Fridays: 7:15 AM β 3:45 PM (Includes a 30-minute lunch break)
- Flexibility: Ability to support school events and programmes beyond regular hours when required.
- Rest Days: Off on Saturdays, Sundays, and all gazetted public holidays.
π Core Responsibilities
You will assist the Food and Consumer Education (FCE) and Nutrition and Food Science (NFS) teachers with daily teaching, learning, and cooking practical activities.
- Lesson Preparation & Teaching Support
- Ingredient & Tool Setup: Prepare ingredients, tools, equipment, and work areas for cookery lessons, practical assessments, and specialized school programmes (e.g., Applied Learning Programmes, GEAR-UP).
- Classroom Standby: Remain on standby during active practical sessions to support teacher requests and patiently assist students during their cooking sessions.
- Logistics: Assist in receiving food and ingredient deliveries from vendors.
- Kitchen Maintenance, Hygiene & Safety
- Housekeeping: Daily cleaning, washing, and sanitizing of two cookery rooms , the preparation room, and one container cabin to maintain top-tier cleanliness, hygiene, and security.
- Safety Audits: Ensure all kitchens are safely locked, and all electricity and gas power supplies are completely shut off at the end of each class and school day.
- Facility Reporting: Promptly report any kitchen facility issues or potential safety risks to the coordinator.
- Administrative & Inventory Management
- Stock Tracking: Check and provide regular inventory updates for perishables and dry goods to teachers for ordering.
- Asset Control: Maintain and update comprehensive logbooks of all kitchen equipment and utensils.
- Documentation: Manage administrative filing and compilation of kitchen-related documents.
π― Job Requirements
- Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience as a Food & Nutrition / FCE Kitchen Assistant.
- Certification: Must possess a valid Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Food Safety Course Level 1 certificate.
- Language: A solid understanding of basic English.
- Physical Fitness: Capable of climbing up to four floors of stairs to access the cookery room in the event of a lift breakdown.
- Key Attributes: Meticulous, organized, responsible, highly aware of food safety protocols, and possesses a patient disposition when working alongside students.
