Process Safety Specialist/Engineer

We are looking for a Process Safety Specialist/Engineer to strengthen the personal and process safety at the Hamina refinery. The role combines practical safety management, process technical understanding, technological risk management, and the systematic development of a safety culture.

Job Description

As a Process Safety Specialist/Engineer, you will be responsible for the key management systems of the plant's process safety. You will ensure the performance of critical safety systems, the management of major accident risks, and the safe implementation of changes through the MOC process. You will ensure that technical and functional changes do not weaken the plant's safety level.

Your tasks include, among others:

• ownership of the change management process as well as ensuring the safety perspective in technical and functional changes
• responsibility for the explosion protection document, safety report, and emergency plan

• the role of chemical supervisor after obtaining the qualification
• development of monitoring, documentation, and reporting of personal and process safety deviations

• leading root cause analyses of deviations and monitoring corrective actions
• planning, organizing, and leading HAZOP and HAZID reviews, as well as monitoring the actions identified in them

In this role, you will work in close cooperation with production, maintenance, technical experts, the occupational safety organization, and the parent company's HSE network. External partners include, among others, Tukes, the rescue service, Hamina Port, and insurance companies.

What do we expect from you?

The role requires a practical understanding of chemical industry processes, process equipment, and process safety. You know how to assess risks related to technological processes and understand how technical and functional protections prevent serious safety and environmental deviations.

Additionally, we expect:

• suitable technical education, for example, a Bachelor's or Master's degree in process, chemical, energy, or mechanical engineering
• experience in the chemical process industry or another demanding process industry operating environment, e.g., in the role of shift supervisor, operations engineer, operations manager, or process engineer

• a strong understanding of process safety, technological risk management, and safety-critical protections
• a systematic and practical approach to work, as well as the ability to complete agreed actions

• good written and oral skills in Finnish and English

We also value

• experience with safety reports, explosion protection, ATEX requirements, or emergency planning
• experience in change management, process hazard assessments, or the management of safety-critical protections

• chemical supervisor qualification or readiness to acquire the qualification
