Research Assistant in sociological demography

The Department of Sociology, founded in 1954, offers a dynamic research environment with many interdisciplinary collaborations and a strong international research profile. The department is particularly competitive in the areas of demography, ethnic relations and migration, gender, family sociology, political sociology, social policy, social networks, and social stratification.

At the department is the Stockholm University Demography Unit (SUDA), an international group of researchers and doctoral students working on many different aspects of population dynamics. Demography is one of Stockholm University's leading research areas.

Job Duties

Two-thirds of the employment (50% of full-time) will be part of the project “SeRO: Sexual and Reproductive Outcomes of Violent Crime” which investigates how local violent crime affects sexual and reproductive health outcomes in Mexico, funded by the European Research Council (ERC). The Principal Investigator for the project is Signe Svallfors. One-third of the employment (25% of full-time) concerns work with and analyses of survey data within the project ”Partnership formation and fertility decline in times of global uncertainties”, funded by Forte. The Principal Investigator for that project is Gunnar Andersson.

The job duties include literature reviews, statistical analyses of empirical data, as well as some project administration.

Qualifications

The applicant must have completed a master's degree in demography or a closely related subject at an advanced level. Knowledge of how health is affected by conflict and/or crime, as well as skills in demographic quantitative methods, are meritorious. Great importance will be placed on personal qualities. Good knowledge of English in speech and writing is a requirement. Knowledge of Swedish is meritorious.

About the Employment

The employment covers up to 75% of full-time and is time-limited to six months with the possibility of extension. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Commencement as soon as possible.
