Research Assistant in Immunology

The Department of Molecular Bioscience, Wenner-Gren Institute (MBW) conducts experimental basic research in molecular cell biology, integrative biology, and infection and immunology. The research environment is characterized by modern and advanced methodology and has a strong international profile. MBW is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University, with approximately 30 research groups and about 180 employees, of which about 50 are doctoral students. Job Duties

The employment is associated with Prof. Eva Sverremark-Ekström's research group. Research in the Sverremark-Ekström lab focuses on how the immune system is shaped by interactions between immune cells and gut bacteria and which mechanisms underlie these processes. In the current project, mechanistic studies are being conducted on how oral immunotherapy for peanut allergy affects immune cell transcription and functional responses, as well as connections to the gut microbiome. The project is ongoing.

We are seeking a person who holds a master's degree in an area relevant to the project. The project includes both experimental laboratory work in biosafety level 2 (BSL2, wet lab) and bioinformatics analyses (dry lab). The person will provide support to the group members driving the project and needs to be able to work independently and be flexible, as well as provide support with figures and analyses as needed. The work includes both advanced bioinformatics with sequencing data from immune cells and microbiota sequencing, as well as laboratory experiments where immune cells are stimulated with various agents in the laboratory. The employment implies that the work is mainly performed on-site in our premises.

Qualifications

The requirement for the employment is a completed degree at an advanced level (MSc) before the start of employment. Upon appointment, special emphasis will be placed on knowledge and independence in bioinformatics, programming, as well as experience and independence in experimental work. Excellent language skills in English, both oral and written, are a prerequisite for the employment.

Upon appointment, special emphasis will be placed on scientific skill as well as competence in relevant areas as mentioned above.

About the Employment

The employment is full-time and is time-limited to a maximum of 4 months. Commencement at the end of October according to agreement.
