Researcher in advanced microscopy of lignin
Kemikum, with more than 200 employees, is one of the largest institutions at Stockholms universitet. Research at Kemikum spans all areas of chemistry, such as analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, materials chemistry, inorganic and structural chemistry, as well as organic chemistry. The research projects are many, ranging from theory to experiment, from pure fundamental research to more applied projects, often focusing on sustainable chemistry but also advanced analytical methods for chemicals and materials. Kemikum has a very well-developed research infrastructure with a wide range of equipment supported by qualified staff researchers.
Kemikum also hosts undergraduate education in chemistry as well as three master's programs: analytical chemistry, sustainable chemistry, and organic chemistry. Doctoral education is conducted within five areas: analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, materials chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and organic chemistry. Project description
The employment is linked to three research projects funded by the European Research Council (ERC; CIRCULIG), the Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF; SUSLIG), and the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW; LIGNOLOOP). A common challenge for these projects is to develop advanced methods for the analysis and visualization of lignin in various liquid and solid media. The successful candidate will join the research group Sustainable Materials Chemistry (SUSMATCHEM), which develops sustainable materials from industrial side streams with a special focus on lignin. The research group consists of approximately 25 employees with broad expertise in chemistry, materials science, and chemical engineering, creating a strongly interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment.
Tasks
The main task is to conduct scientific research. The researcher will focus on advanced microscopy and the development of analytical methods for lignin-containing materials. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to project management, scientific communication, and the dissemination of research results through scientific publications, presentations, and other forms of research communication.
Eligibility requirements
A researcher is primarily employed for research and must have obtained a doctoral degree or hold a foreign degree assessed to correspond to a doctoral degree.
Assessment criteria
When making the appointment, particular weight will be attached to scientific skill. The applicant must have documented experience in the characterization of lignin using microscopy techniques as well as a documented ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment. Good communication skills are required. Documented experience in the synthesis, characterization, or application of lignin-based colloidal materials is meritorious. Very good knowledge of English, both oral and written, is a requirement.
About the employment
The employment is full-time and is time-limited to a maximum of 12 months. Start date 2026-09-02 or as agreed.
