Senior System Engineer (Safety)
Job Description:
Provide systems engineering support (safety) for the assessment and management of system and product safety.
Work with programme managers, chief engineers, designers and subject matter experts to develop, allocate and verify safety requirements throughout the system lifecycle.
Support safety assessments for emerging technologies, including autonomous systems, AI-enabled systems, robotics and other complex engineering products, where applicable.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders to address safety considerations throughout the system and product lifecycle.
Develop System Safety Programme Plan (SSPP), Trial Safety Assessment Report (TSAR), Milestone Safety Assessment Report, In-Service Safety Assessment Report (SAR), Packaging, Handling, Storage, Transportation Safety Assessment Report (PHST SAR). Assessment will include software safety and AI safety, where applicable.
Perform system safety tasks such as Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), System Hazard Analysis (SHA), Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Safety Critical Items/Characteristics Identification, Safety Requirements Identification, Development, Allocation and Verification activities, particularly for company products
Analyze various types of engineering systems to identify hazards, assess risks and recommend control measures to eliminate or reduce mishap risks.
Track and manage hazards throughout the system and product development lifecycle, ensuring closure of safety actions and verification of risk control measures.
Evaluate Engineering Change Requests to assess impact on safety.
Support Non-Conformance Material Requests to evaluate impact on safety.
Support standardisation and enhancement of processes and methodologies for system safety.
Job Requirements:
- Degree preferably in Systems, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electronics, Aerospace or related Engineering disciplines.
- Relevant engineering experience in system design, product development, systems engineering, testing, reliability, safety engineering or related disciplines.
- Good communication and technical writing skills.
- Able to interact well in diverse team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand complex engineering systems.
- Meticulous, self-motivated and able to learn and apply new knowledge within a short period of time.
- Proficient in Microsoft M365.
Familiarity with the following will be an added advantage:
- Systems Engineering, Software Safety, AI Safety and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Hazard Analysis techniques such as Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) or similar methodologies
- System and product design & development processes
- Defence and aerospace standards e.g. MIL-STD-1316 and MIL-STD-882
- Safety Assessment Report (SAR) and Safety Case development
