Design Manager
Job Responsibilities Lead and manage the overall design coordination activities for a large-scale hospital construction project. Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, specialist contractors, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure integrated design solutions. Manage the design development process from design stage through construction and project completion. Review architectural, civil & structural, M&E and specialist design submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements. Coordinate design interfaces between architectural, structural, M&E and other disciplines. Review drawings, specifications, calculations, technical submissions, shop drawings and material submissions. Monitor design deliverables, submission schedules and approvals in line with the overall project programme. Coordinate with consultants and relevant authorities on design submissions, approvals and technical requirements. Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries and design-related issues raised by the construction team. Review and coordinate design changes, ensuring proper documentation and communication to relevant project stakeholders. Identify design clashes, inconsistencies and potential construction issues and coordinate timely resolution. Lead BIM/design coordination and clash detection activities where applicable. Work closely with the construction and planning teams to ensure that design information is available in time for construction activities. Review construction methodology and provide design input to address site constraints and technical issues. Monitor compliance of design development with approved drawings, specifications, contractual requirements and statutory regulations. Attend design, technical and project coordination meetings and follow up on outstanding design matters. Coordinate with quantity surveying/commercial teams on design changes, variations and cost implications. Monitor design risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures to minimise delays, rework and additional costs. Provide technical guidance and support to design engineers, coordinators and project team members. Maintain proper records of design submissions, approvals, revisions, technical correspondence and design changes. Support testing, commissioning, completion and handover activities from a design coordination perspective. Job Requirements Degree in Architecture, Civil & Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services or a related discipline. Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in construction design management or design coordination. Proven experience managing design coordination for large-scale building projects. Experience in hospital, healthcare, institutional or complex building projects will be an advantage. Experience working with a main contractor, Design & Build contractor or construction management team is preferred. Strong knowledge of construction design processes, technical coordination and project delivery. Good understanding of Singapore building codes, statutory requirements and authority submission processes. Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and consultants. Familiarity with BIM, Revit, AutoCAD and other design coordination tools. Strong ability to review technical drawings, specifications and design documentation. Good project management, communication, coordination and problem-solving skills. Able to manage multiple design deliverables and meet project deadlines. Strong leadership skills with the ability to coordinate and guide design team members.
