Workshop Technician
About the company
Frome, Somerset | Uncrewed Aircraft & Aerospace Ever pulled something apart just to see how it works? Love fixing things, building things and getting stuck into a project rather than sitting behind a desk all day?
Your tasks
We're looking for a hands-on, practical person who loves making things happen to join an aerospace workshop team working on the next generation of uncrewed aircraft.
What will you actually be doing? Forget being stuck doing the same thing every day. This is a varied, hands-on role where you'll get involved in bringing aircraft from individual components to fully assembled machines.
You'll be
- Building and assembling aircraft - getting hands-on with mechanical components, systems and assemblies.
- Fixing, maintaining and improving things - troubleshooting problems, carrying out repairs and helping upgrade aircraft.
- Getting stuck into different types of engineering - from mechanical and electrical assembly to fabrication, composites and testing.
- Helping test what you've built - supporting everything from component-level testing through to full flight trials of large uncrewed aircraft.
- Keeping the workshop running smoothly - working with tools, equipment and components to make sure everything is ready when it's needed.
- Working with a team that gets things done - taking ownership of your work, figuring things out and helping turn ideas into reality.
No two days are guaranteed to be the same, and you'll have the chance to develop your skills as you go.
Requirements
You don't need an engineering degree. You don't even need a traditional engineering background. What matters is that you're practical, curious, switched on and ready to roll your sleeves up and crack on.
Who are we looking for? We're much more interested in what you can do with your hands than what certificates you've got hanging on the wall.
You could be
- A mechanic who loves diagnosing and fixing problems.
- Someone with experience in a workshop, garage or manufacturing environment.
- A practical person who's worked with tools, assembled equipment or built things from scratch.
- Someone with experience in fabrication, welding, sheet metal, composites or electrical assembly.
- A hobbyist who loves making, modifying or repairing things and wants to turn that passion into a career.
You don't need to tick every box. Experience with mechanical or electrical assembly, precision measuring tools, testing or workshop equipment is useful, but training will be provided where needed.
What matters most is that you're practical, adaptable, take pride in doing a job properly and aren't afraid to get stuck into something new.
You'll need to be comfortable with physical, hands-on work, able to work independently and as part of a team, and committed to quality and safety.
