We are currently looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant & Minibus Driver to join a supportive school team, working with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs .

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient and genuinely passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning. The hours for this role is Monday-Friday, 8am-3pm

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide both educational and pastoral support to pupils, helping them to engage positively with their learning and develop their confidence, independence and social skills. Alongside your TA responsibilities, you will also be required to drive the school minibus , safely transporting pupils to and from school and supporting with educational visits and activities where required. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Supporting pupils to engage positively with their learning.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Helping pupils develop their confidence, emotional regulation and independence.
  • Supporting the classroom teacher with activities and behaviour management.
  • Using positive and consistent approaches to manage challenging behaviour.
  • Maintaining a calm, safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Driving the school minibus safely and responsibly.
  • Supporting pupils during journeys and ensuring their wellbeing and safety at all times.
  • Assisting with school trips and off-site activities.
  • Working closely with teaching staff and other professionals to support individual pupils.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience working with children or young people, particularly within an SEMH, SEN or challenging-behaviour setting.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to remain composed in challenging situations.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people.
  • A full, clean UK driving licence and the appropriate entitlement/requirements to drive a school minibus (D1 License)
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date. Spencer Clarke Group work with a variety of schools covering a wide geographical area. We deal with teaching placements at Primary, Secondary, Special Education needs and college level as well as support staff positions also within these.
