The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Health and Fitness Technician supporting physical performance, readiness, and rehabilitation elements of the holistic health approach (HHA) programs directly supporting the Department of the Air Force, Space Force mission assigned 535th Training Squadron program with the goal of building resiliency.
Major duties
Provides health and physical activity assessment and intervention programs to improve BMT trainees overall health and well-being. Integrated Rehabilitation and Return-to-Training Execution: Functions as an APTA board certified physical therapist assistant with clinical oversight for musculoskeletal conditions as provided by a credentialed and privileged health care provider in the field of musculoskeletal medicine. Early Injury Identification and Risk Mitigation: Identifies early indicators of musculoskeletal injury across large trainee populations, including overuse patterns, load intolerance, movement inefficiencies, and footwear or equipment-related issues. Human Performance Integration (IPHPO Alignment): Integrates rehabilitation with human performance principles across strength, endurance, mobility, and recovery domains. Data Collection, Trend Analysis, and Reporting: Documents all treatments, responses, and outcomes in accordance with clinical and operational requirements.
Qualifications
Conditions of Employment Continued: Must maintain credentials as required by local Military Treatment Facility (MTF) guidance. Employee must be able to receive/maintain privileges/medical staff appointment as a physical therapist assistant by the MTF credentials office, to include participation in ongoing peer review. Must possess and maintain current certification in Basic life Support (BLS) In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NJ-02, equivalent to the next to lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in the Federal Service. Specialized experience must include implementing prescribed physical therapy treatment and rehabilitation plans under the supervision or clinical oversight of a Physical Therapist. Providing therapeutic exercise, movement retraining, mobility interventions, and rehabilitation or reconditioning activities for patients. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects related to the position. Education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: a combination of specialized experience and education, that when combined equals 100% of the qualification's requirement. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of an extensive body of well established health promotion/education theories, principles, practices, evidence-based guidelines, and procedures necessary to provide and document effective health promotion. 2. Knowledge of physiology and/or exercise techniques sufficient to conduct physical activity assessments and provide improvement plans. 3. Ability to consult with the PT to assess progress, modify treatment and set discharge plan, and independently implement treatment plan using knowledge of techniques related to the patient's needs. Knowledge of physical therapy data collection an assessment techniques in order to perform specific interventions and to monitor and capture progress of the patient. 4. Skill in patient instruction, motivation, and education to improve treatment adherence. Ability to identify musculoskeletal injury patterns and communicate findings effectively 5. Knowledge of clinical documentation standards, safety protocols, and equipment handling procedures. 6. Skill in health communication strategies to effectively promote a comprehensive physical activity program as well as skill in verbal and written communication to consult with other health care providers, counsel athletes/ patients, and serve as a consultant to leadership. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
