OT Engineer | DSL-01

Work on one of the first large-scale SAF plants in Europe. You will contribute to the construction of DSL-01 in Delfzijl: a plant focused on the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel and by-products.

You will become part of an experienced team in which your expertise directly contributes to a safe and successful realization of the project.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an OT Engineer, you play a key role in designing, implementing, and managing the Operational Technology (OT) environment of DSL-01.

You report to the IT & OT Manager and work closely with automation engineers, plant operations, maintenance, contractors, suppliers, and IT specialists. Together, you ensure that the systems controlling the plant function safely, with availability, and reliably.

This role connects two phases of the project. During the construction of DSL-01, you will help make important design choices for the OT environment. After commissioning, you will be responsible for supporting, managing, and continuously improving the operational technology within the plant.

Your focus is clear: a reliable OT environment that is safe, available, and future-proof.

Project phase:

During the construction of DSL-01, you contribute to the development of the OT architecture and the preparation of the operational phase.

Your responsibilities include, among others:

• Translating OT and cybersecurity requirements into supplier specifications, contractor scopes, and technical designs
• Performing OT risk analyses and defining network segmentation, zones, and data flows within the OT landscape
• Assessing designs, network architectures, and technical documentation from suppliers and integrators
• Designing OT networks, IT/OT DMZ structures, and secure remote access for suppliers and support parties
• Participating in FAT and SAT testing and supporting commissioning activities
• Developing standards for configuration management, backup, and recovery procedures
• Contributing to the integration of systems such as DCS, PLC, MES, EAM, LIMS, and Historian platforms
• Drafting operational procedures for change management, patching, monitoring, and incident handling

You lay the foundation for an OT environment that is safe, stable, and manageable from the very first day of production.

Operational phase:

After the commissioning of the plant, you are responsible for the management and further development of the OT environment.

Your responsibilities include, among others:

• Supporting and managing OT systems within the plant
• Monitoring the availability, reliability, and safety of production and control systems
• Coordinating changes, updates, and maintenance activities within planned maintenance windows
• Collaborating with operators, engineers, and maintenance teams during technical malfunctions and improvement processes
• Managing OT assets, documentation, and technical standards
• Supporting OT monitoring, risk management, and cybersecurity measures
• Investigating OT-related incidents and implementing structural improvements
• Collaborating with IT Infrastructure and IT Security to keep the OT environment safe and future-proof
• Participating in a periodic on-call service (24/7 support)

YOUR PROFILE

You recognize yourself in the following:

• You have a completed education in, for example, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Computer Science, or a similar field.
• You have at least 4 years of experience with Operational Technology (OT), industrial automation, or industrial control systems, part of which is focused on cybersecurity or OT security.
• You have experience in industrial environments such as the chemical industry, process industry, energy, or refining sector.
• You have knowledge of industrial control systems such as DCS, PLC, SCADA, and HMI environments.
• You have experience with OT networks and industrial protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, OPC UA, PROFINET, or PROFIBUS.
• You understand how availability, reliability, safety, and cybersecurity influence each other within a production environment.
• You are able to analyze technical problems across different disciplines, such as software, networks, and industrial equipment.
• You have experience with infrastructure components such as virtualization platforms, Active Directory, and DNS.
• You speak and write fluent Dutch and English.

Nice to have:

• Experience with IEC 62443, NIS2, or other relevant cybersecurity standards for industrial environments.
• Experience with greenfield projects, commissioning, or the startup of new installations.
• Experience with OT monitoring and asset visibility platforms such as Claroty, Nozomi, Dragos, or similar solutions.
• Knowledge of functional safety, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and IEC 61511.
• Certifications such as GICSP, ISA/IEC 62443, CISSP, or similar.

ABOUT DSL-01

In Delfzijl, we are building DSL-01, a SkyNRG plant for renewable fuels. Here, we produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from waste streams such as used fats and oils, using HEFA technology. Additionally, we produce by-products such as butane, propane, and naphtha.

DSL-01 will be the first plant in Europe fully focused on SAF and associated sustainable by-products. Once the plant is operational, we will produce 100,000 tons of SAF and 35,000 tons of by-products annually. With this, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 80% compared to fossil kerosene, measured across the entire chain.

Construction started in 2026 and the first production is planned for 2028. The project includes the plant itself, associated pipelines, and temporary work sites. You will contribute directly to the realization of a new industrial plant and the sustainability of aviation.

We work according to international standards and Dutch laws and regulations to carefully manage the impact on people, nature, and the environment. Safety, sustainability, and collaboration are central to this.
