Java Backend

Your tasks

• Design, build, and scale backend services and data pipelines that power search indexing
• Own performance, capacity, and reliability for your components — including latency, freshness, and indexing throughput

• Debug and resolve complex production issues across distributed systems
• Partner with search ranking, serving, and product teams to evolve the indexing stack toward new requirements

• Raise the technical bar through design reviews, code reviews, and mentorship of other engineers
• Drive technical direction for your area, including migrations off legacy components

Requirements

Minimum qualifications -5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a focus on backend or distributed systems

• Strong programming skills in one or more of C++, Java, Go, Rust, or Python
• Hands-on experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production

• Experience diagnosing and fixing performance, scalability, and reliability problems
• Demonstrated ability to own ambiguous, multi-quarter technical problems end to end

Preferred qualifications

• Direct experience with searchinfrastructure: inverted indexes, indexing pipelines, retrieval, or queryserving
• Experience with stream processingand large-scale data systems

• Experience with storage systems,caching layers, or sharding and replication strategies
• Track record of migrating orre-platforming production systems with no user-visible disruption
