Job Description

Tell people what is happening between Africa and Silicon Valley before everyone else understands why it matters. You will build our flagship newsletter, published every two weeks, with original reporting, profiles, interviews and market analysis. One week it is a 2,000-word profile of a founder building an extraordinary company. Next, it is ten investor interviews on whether appetite for African startups is rising or falling, and what founders should do about it. Our advantage is access. We are in Silicon Valley, and we convene founders, investors, operators and policymakers from both ecosystems. You will use that to get stories and intelligence that are hard for anyone else to get.

What you will do

Own the editorial calendar and publish every two weeks Spot the stories, companies, people and market movements worth watching before they are obvious Interview founders, investors and operators, and write long-form profiles, explainers and reported features Turn funding news into what happened, why it matters and what to do about it Use data to find patterns in funding, talent, sectors and expansion Build relationships with the investors, founders and researchers who become trusted sources Work with our social and media teams to turn strong reporting into video, charts and posts The editorial mandate Everything we publish answers one of two questions: what is happening in Silicon Valley that matters for Africa, and what is happening in Africa that matters for Silicon Valley. We care about venture capital and financing, founder journeys, emerging companies, AI and technology, cross-border expansion, talent, acquisitions and exits, investor behavior, regulation and policy, new funds, and the diaspora networks and people quietly shaping the corridor.

Who you are

Intensely curious about founders, venture, technology and markets An exceptional writer who makes complicated ideas clear without making them simplistic A sharp interviewer who listens closely and asks the extra question Comfortable with numbers, and with cold outreach when a story needs it Strong editorial judgment, and the initiative to chase a story without being handed one Ambitious about craft: you rewrite the opening paragraph five times and check the number again Have lived, studied or worked abroad, or worked with global companies or teams, and understand how readers across regions and cultures see the same story differently There is no single required background. You may come from journalism, venture capital, startups, research or investment analysis. You may be a fund analyst who loved writing the investment memo, a venture fellowship alum who enjoyed company deep dives and market maps, a journalist who wants to be closer to founders and capital, or an operator who writes unusually well. What success looks like One of the most trusted sources of intelligence on the Africa to Silicon Valley corridor. A newsletter founders forward to five other founders. Each edition better than the last.
