Head of Finance Performance Management - Rail Infrastructure
Position Overview
Siemens Mobility North America seeks an experienced finance leader to head Finance and Performance Management (FPM) for its Rail Infrastructure (RI) business. The role provides an independent, forward-looking view of performance, serves as a trusted sparring partner to RI and Finance leadership, and connects the business unit with North America and global stakeholders.
You will lead the RI FPM team and own the coordination, consolidation, analysis and communication of financial performance, combining strong governance with commercial insight, constructive challenge and pragmatic decision support in a complex project and product environment.
What You Will Accomplish
Drive fact-based performance management, translating financial and operational data into a clear view of results, outlook, risks, opportunities and required actions.
Act as an independent, solution-oriented partner who challenges assumptions and explains trade-offs without taking over operational ownership.
Build a coherent RI financial narrative that links drivers, financial statements and management priorities across segments and stakeholders.
Develop a high-performing, collaborative FPM team that balances business proximity with common North America standards and continuous capability building.
Advance process harmonization, digitalization, analytics and responsible AI to improve finance quality, speed and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
Business Partnership and Performance Management
Serve as principal FPM partner to RI leadership and the primary RI interface to North America regional and global finance.
Monitor key financial and operational indicators to spot trends, deviations, risks and opportunities early and turn them into decision-relevant insights.
Objectively challenge forecasts, budgets, business cases and assumptions; develop scenarios, sensitivities and fact-based recommendations.
Deliver concise executive analyses explaining what changed, why it matters, what remains uncertain and where action is needed.
Planning, Forecasting, Reporting and Financial Integrity
Lead the RI annual budget, monthly forecast and management reporting processes, from calendars and inputs through consolidation, review, commentary and submission.
Ensure a complete, accurate and consistent view of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow, with transparent bridges between actuals, forecast, budget and prior outlook.
Challenge the plausibility of business and project inputs, investigate unusual entries and variances, and make material risks, opportunities and adjustments visible in the outlook.
Partner with Accounting, Commercial Project Management, Operations and others to align close impacts, assumptions and the financial storyline, while keeping accountability for source data and business decisions clear.
Escalate material performance, cash, balance-sheet, compliance or control issues promptly, with the evidence decision makers need.
Governance, Process Excellence and Digitalization
Reinforce finance governance, internal-control and reporting requirements; support audit readiness and documentation of significant assumptions and judgments.
Clarify responsibilities and interfaces across FPM, the business, Accounting, CPM, Operations and central functions to avoid duplication, ownership gaps and "shadow" controlling structures.
Drive common North America FPM standards and best practices, allowing fit-for-purpose differences for RI business models and segments.
Sponsor simplification, automation, analytics and digital-finance initiatives, including SAC, SAP, standardized templates and responsible AI-enabled workflows.
Regularly assess the value, effort and control implications of recurring reports and processes, prioritizing improvements in insight, reliability or productivity.
Leadership and Talent Development
Lead, coach and develop a diverse finance team with clear priorities, quality standards, responsibilities and development goals.
Foster trust, candid communication, accountability, collaboration and continuous learning across locations and organizational boundaries.
Balance business support, governance and capacity, focusing resources on material topics and ensuring resilient coverage of critical recurring processes.
Contribute to the North America FPM leadership team and the OneFPM agenda, including talent development, succession planning and cross-business collaboration.
Scope and Accountability
FPM owns financial transparency, process coordination, consolidation, independent challenge and management insight; business and functional owners remain accountable for operational plans, source assumptions, corrective actions and final decisions. The Head of FPM RI keeps these interfaces explicit, surfaces material issues and ensures temporary support does not become a permanent transfer of ownership.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Typically 8+ years of progressive experience in controlling, FP&A, finance business partnering, commercial project management, or similar, including meaningful leadership responsibility.
Proven ability to lead budgeting, forecasting, performance reporting and executive reviews in a complex matrix organization.
Strong grasp of P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow interdependencies and how project, operational and commercial drivers shape financial outcomes.
Excellent analytical judgment; able to distinguish facts, estimates and hypotheses, challenge assumptions and make uncertainty explicit.
Executive-level communication skills, turning complex data into concise, decision-oriented messages for regional and international stakeholders.
Proven people leader who coaches experienced professionals, sets direction and builds constructive relationships across functions and hierarchies.
High integrity, resilience and sound judgment; able to prioritize and deliver reliable results under competing deadlines.
Advanced proficiency with enterprise planning, reporting and analytics tools; experience with SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), SAP, data visualization, automation or AI-enabled finance workflows is an advantage.
Experience in project-driven, infrastructure, transportation, or industrial businesses preferred.
