Shopware is a leading e-commerce system that enables companies worldwide to scale quickly and efficiently in digital commerce. As a forward-thinking open-source solution, Shopware is already being used by some of the largest European brands, retailers, and manufacturers in the B2C and B2B sectors.

At Shopware, design goes far beyond creating intuitive interfaces. Good design creates clarity in complex systems, connects business goals with user needs, and shapes experiences that people enjoy using. Our design principles as well as our open-source design system Meteor (shopware.design (https://shopware.design/) / meteor.shopware.com (http://meteor.shopware.com/) ) form the foundation of our daily work.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Product & Experience Designer (m/f/d) who enjoys solving complex challenges across various disciplines and actively helps shape the contribution that design makes at Shopware.

You will work embedded in a cross-functional product team and initially focus on our CMS and Checkout areas. At the same time, you will be part of our central design team (https://careers.shopware.com/de/team/design/) and report to the Head of UX. Your area of responsibility deliberately extends beyond individual product domains. Depending on strategic priorities, you will work on product experiences, our design system, our website, or selected brand initiatives. This variety is explicitly intended – we are looking for someone who enjoys switching between different design challenges and creating cross-cutting consistency.

In addition to designing outstanding user experiences, you will actively contribute to further developing the quality of design at Shopware – through mentoring, promoting cross-departmental collaboration, and the continuous evolution of our design culture.

If you enjoy switching between strategy and implementation, bringing different disciplines together, and making complex products appear simple, we look forward to meeting you.

AI at Shopware Design

At Shopware, AI does not replace designers, but is a tool that is deeply integrated into our daily workflows. It accelerates conceptual work and prototype development, takes over repetitive tasks, and gives us the freedom to focus on creative tasks. AI enables every designer to create things they might have previously only dreamed of. That is Shopware. Where visionaries design and designers dream.

We promote the use of AI that goes beyond what has been considered the norm for years. Our design system is agent-ready. We believe that designing with agents will redefine the interaction between humans and software, and we want you to take a pioneering role in this.

This position can be filled on-site, hybrid, or fully remote within Germany or certain European countries where we are registered. Your place of work will be agreed upon in advance and forms the basis of your employment contract.

These are your tasks:

  • Shape product and experience strategy: You design user experiences across multiple product areas – initially focusing on CMS and Checkout – and beyond that, support strategic initiatives where your expertise creates the most value – from product initiatives to selected brand projects.
  • Solve complex challenges: You translate complex functional, technical, and user-related requirements into intuitive experiences that create value for merchants, developers, partners, and buyers.
  • Create consistency across all experiences: You strengthen the overall experience of our products by actively contributing to Meteor, our open-source design system, developing interaction patterns, and ensuring consistency across products, platforms, and touchpoints.
  • Validate ideas based on data: You moderate workshops, develop prototypes, validate concepts with users, and continuously develop solutions based on research, qualitative insights, experiments, and product data.
  • Enable collaboration: You work closely with Product Management, Engineering, UX Research, Marketing, and Leadership, creating a shared understanding and aligning different perspectives.
  • Develop design: You support other designers through mentoring, constructive feedback, and design reviews, thereby contributing to the development of the entire design organization.
  • Drive design quality: You actively advocate for high-quality user experiences, further develop our design principles, constructively question assumptions, and continuously raise the quality standard for design.

What you bring to the role:

  • You have extensive experience in designing complex digital products and know how to balance user needs, business goals, technical constraints, and brand identity.
  • Instead of specializing in a single area, you are inspired by a wide variety of design challenges – from product experiences to design systems to platform topics and selected brand initiatives.
  • Systems Thinking is second nature to you. Whether you are designing new workflows, developing a design system, or optimizing a customer journey – you always keep the big picture and the long-term impact of your decisions in mind.
  • You moderate workshops, bring stakeholders together, and create clarity in complex situations where others primarily see ambiguity.
  • Your influence extends far beyond your own projects. Through mentoring, constructive feedback, and design leadership, you support other designers in their development while simultaneously raising the quality standard within the entire design organization.
  • You work confidently with Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers, Marketing, and Leadership, adapting your communication to different target groups and creating alignment without relying on disciplinary leadership.
  • Design Systems, prototyping, user research, experiments, and usability testing are naturally part of your toolkit – and you know exactly which method provides the most value when.
  • Working with AI is a natural part of your design process. You actively explore how AI can improve research, ideation, prototyping, documentation, and design quality, and you want to help shape how modern product design is further developed through AI.
  • Very good English skills enable you to collaborate effectively across teams and time zones. German is a plus, but not a requirement.

What we offer you:

  • Company culture: Open culture, flat hierarchies, initiative is encouraged.
  • Employment contracts: Permanent positions offer long-term security.
  • Flexibility: Flexible working hours and options for mobile working and full-remote contracts.
  • Equipment: Free choice of work hardware.
  • Onboarding: Well-structured onboarding with support from a personal "buddy".
  • Work environment: Inspiring environment with dedicated colleagues and a dynamic community.
  • Development opportunities: Diverse opportunities for personal growth and development.
  • Additional benefits: Attractive benefits such as company pension schemes, health programs, and regular team events.
