The position is located within the IT Operations department in the IT Infrastructure team, which is responsible for the internal IT infrastructure of shopware AG.
Requirements
As an IT Infrastructure Architect – Cloud Focus (m/w/d), you are responsible for the vision and architecture of Shopware's internal infrastructure. You plan and manage the cloud migration of remaining on-prem environments, define the network and security architecture, and shape standards, governance, and budgeting. With creative freedom for conception, implementation, and iteration, you help build a future-proof internal platform – from the foundation to operations.
This position can be filled hybrid, or fully remote within Germany.
You take end-to-end responsibility for our infrastructure vision and roadmap, how components interact today, and how they should evolve.
By migrating on-premise environments to the cloud (AWS), you modernize our internal infrastructure and reduce risks for internal services. In doing so, you define patterns and guardrails that others can reuse.
You design and further develop our network infrastructure and ensure segmentation, resilience, and operability.
You review and increase the standard for monitoring, backup/restore, and observability (e.g., PRTG, Datadog, AWS CloudWatch) to guarantee reliability and recoverability.
Together with our IT Security Specialist and the Information Security Officer, you translate security requirements into practical controls – from firewall policies to Identity & Access (Azure AD/ID, local AD).
You plan and manage the infrastructure budget, optimize cloud costs, and make sound make-or-buy decisions.
Hands-on
You lead projects and, if necessary, provide technical leadership to small project teams to deliver milestones on time and with guaranteed quality.
You work closely with internal stakeholders (Team Lead IT Administration, entire IT Infrastructure team) as well as cross-departmental partners within Shopware (e.g., Information Security Officer, Product), coordinating plans and sequencing changes.
What you bring to the table:
You have 2–3 years of experience in a comparable architecture/leadership role over cloud and on-prem infrastructures.
Your broad technical expertise allows you to think holistically about network, identity, compute, storage, backup/DR, and security to make pragmatic, scalable decisions.
Cloud competence – especially AWS – as well as vCenter, Azure AD/ID, and local AD enable you to confidently manage migrations and hybrid setups.
You are proficient in IaC, enterprise networking, VPN, and monitoring stacks; we use Terraform, SonicWall, Cisco Meraki, Tailscale, as well as PRTG/Datadog/CloudWatch – experience with comparable tools is equally valuable.
Strong planning and stakeholder management skills help you coordinate roadmaps, anticipate bottlenecks early, and ensure commitment and timely implementation.
Security is an integral part of your work: You translate policies into enforceable, auditable controls across the entire stack.
Communication is one of your strengths: You explain complex trade-offs clearly, adapt your messages from executive briefings to technical specifications, and align teams behind a plan.
Very good written and spoken English is required; German is a great advantage but not a prerequisite.
Willingness to travel for regular appointments at our campus in Schöppingen rounds off your profile.
