Route Planner
We are seeking an organized and detail-oriented Route Planner to coordinate efficient delivery and collection routes for warehouse operations. The successful candidate will plan daily transportation schedules, assign routes and vehicles, monitor deliveries, and ensure that shipments reach customers on time and cost-effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and optimize daily delivery and collection routes based on customer locations, delivery windows, vehicle capacity, and driver availability.
- Coordinate with warehouse, transportation, customer service, and inventory teams.
- Assign vehicles and drivers to appropriate routes.
- Prepare and distribute daily route schedules, delivery manifests, and driver instructions.
- Monitor delivery progress and respond to delays, breakdowns, traffic, or customer-related issues.
- Use route-planning, GPS, fleet-management, or warehouse-management software.
- Ensure vehicles are loaded according to route sequence, weight limits, and safety requirements.
- Confirm that orders, addresses, quantities, and delivery instructions are accurate.
- Track delivery performance, fuel usage, mileage, and route efficiency.
- Communicate schedule changes and delivery updates to relevant departments and customers.
- Maintain accurate records of routes, delivery confirmations, failed deliveries, and incidents.
- Identify opportunities to reduce transportation costs, mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery times.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, transportation regulations, and health and safety standards.
- Support the investigation and resolution of delivery complaints or discrepancies.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in logistics, transportation, or supply chain is an advantage.
- Previous experience in route planning, dispatching, warehouse operations, logistics, or transportation coordination.
- Good knowledge of local roads, delivery areas, and traffic patterns.
- Experience using GPS, route-planning, fleet-management, or warehouse-management systems.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or diploma in logistics, supply chain management, or transportation.
- Experience with delivery management platforms or ERP/WMS systems.
- Knowledge of vehicle capacity planning and transport regulations.
- Experience managing multiple routes, drivers, and delivery priorities.
- Familiarity with key performance indicators such as on-time delivery, route completion, fuel efficiency, and cost per delivery.
